Another related question. WxC seem to have quite a nice customised RGW and I already use and like their phone service. Can they, or another ISP with their own dedicated RGW reconnect at least the phone side of it if it drops out for whatever reason without having to attend  or require any intervention from the site. That functionality seems to me to be  needed to fully replace the benefits of a copper POTS line or (it appears) the Chorus ONT.

One of my customers is an 80+ year old lady. A while ago, I moved her to WxC Fusion over fibre connection with the AudioCodes MP264. I pretty much don't make any money from her now due to lack of callouts (not that I charge old ladies top dollar of course). So this "scary" new fibre technology has been more reliable for an elderly lady than copper ever was.

+1 for the MP264 for stability - installed one for a relative about 6 months ago, and have never touched it since, not even to power cycle.

Is this a rebadged unit of another brand? Is it possible to buy this device outside WXC?

Made by these guys http://www.audiocodes.com/ but has WxC firmware and badging. The VoIP module is locked to WxC.

Are they distributed locally? I'd quite like to get my hands on one for a week or two for testing purposes.
