JimBrack: Already with 2Talk. applying a small markup to cover costs.. Corporate clients are charged at 2Talk rates eg 3c national calls, .25c mobile.
A Motel in Wellington charged me $1.50 to dial an outside line then .60c per min for a local call no wonder people don't use phones in motels...

I think you've done a good thing.

Getting a wee bit OT now but I've just come back from 6 weeks travelling around Japan, Europe and North America. What amazed me was the different business models that now exist between hotels when it comes to charging for internet access.

There seem to now be two distinct camps - those who are charging and those that offer free service. While offering free unmetered internet does leave you open to abuse it certainly can be controlled by limiting usage.

There also doesn't seem to be any consistancy to this - there are large chains now offering it for free as a selling point and large chains charging big $ determined to extract every last cent of their customers.

I'm in the "Free" internet camp. I use IPCop to block known Bad sites, pop ups, bit torrents and other rubbish, and keep them away from my network. I use the billing software to allow them access and slow down their connection (slower than dial up) if they download .mov .mp3 .zip etc etc. 98% of quests just check emails and perhaps look at trade-me, facebook twitter or make their next accommodation booking etc. so the costs to me are next to nothing. the benefit is that they tend to come back as the guy down the road charges $10. per hour/part hour
