Sorry, my bad. that machine has an issue with routing after a power cut and we put in smart meters today which took down the whole network.

Should work now.

There are a few things looking at that config that will result in issues.

STUN won't work because mapping isn't enabled, your RTP packet size is wrong for G.711, and you'll probably want to disable all the feature codes because they clash with all the 2talk ones (and those used by virtually every provider), but this depends if you want to handle things like divert, DND etc locally or at the SIP proxy.

I've now tried all of the possible config changes in Don's config, sound quality is still not as good as the land-line. I'll record some samples to see whether anyone can pinpoint the problem from the sound, but I'm expecting to be told either "it sounds fine to me" or" that's the way it is with a PAP2T".

Ask 2Talk to have a look at the MOS stats for you they should be able to see if any packet loss or jitter in the call and see what they see, you may have it right but it's purely the connection

+1 Raise a support ticket for that in the web interface rather than a support email so it goes to the right person a bit more quickly.

Also please report back the response.  I'm interested to hear the out come of this one.  Mine's not perfect either.

old3eyes: I've got a PAP2 on 2Talk at home using G711 codec and it sounds better than my Telecom landline..

I've tried changing the codec to both of the G711 options, and that makes no difference.
Is there a way you can send me your whole configuration? (I notice that there isn't an option to save the configuration to file).

I hope it isn't just the inherent quality of the adapter.

With the exception of the dial plan it's setup per the 2Talk  suggested method.

Stranger and stranger. Today, the speech quality is indistinguishable from the land-line.

What I was doing yesterday, whilst experimenting with different parameters, was making calls to my Telstra voicemail and comparing the messages with one left from the land-line. Over several hours and many calls it was always easy to tell the difference. At the end, I had put all the parameters back to their previous settings, but today, making the same test calls, the quality is the same.

All I can think of to do, is to wait and see if it deteriorates at any time in the future, and raise a ticket with 2talk when it happens.

Thanks for all your suggestions and information.

I did real live testing to people so I could figure things like the echo and feed back.

I did make person to person calls too, but I made the voice-mail calls after each individual parameter change so I could listen to them immediately after each other. Also I can listen to them now and know that I wasn't imagining it. I couldn't find any satisfactory way to record them onto the computer, the microphone and/or sound input are not sensitive enough and very noisy.

Yes, I think getting the messages by email is very useful, but, the difference between land-line and voip calls to the 2talk voice-mail were not as distinctively different as those recorded by Telstra voice-mail. I don't know if that is because the wav files are very low bit rate, or some other reason.  It could even be that the player I'm using to play the files is hiding the differences.
