Many people are using EFTPOS through 2talk today - we see thousands of calls every day. It is obviously dependent on your connection but a good stable connection with no packet loss, latency or jitter issues should work well. The key thing is to setup your line as a fax line with 2talk and then the key things are to use G.711 alaw and Inband DTMF, no echo cancelation or VAD.

Pay attention to the 'Fax' specific settings and you should be okay. T.38 is not required for EFTPOS to work.

ahh, so the party line lives to see another day, hey has anyone worked out the SIP server response to the hand crank actions on this old 50s phone I have here?

I'm mad I couldn't make the voip work... that would have been much cooler.

Reverting to party line... hummm, but yes, that's basically the go.

TelstraClear told them that the ezpay units still won't work on their pots.

My customer's past experience: Use Asterisk v1.6 Server, force Jitter Buffer, use ulaw codec, Eftpos machine almost work over 90%. QoS setup is in your network is required otherwise when someone's doing P2P downloads, the Eftpos machine will die.

EFTPOS should work 100% over VoIP. If it's not you've still got a less than optimal setup.

Jitter buffer enabled is also a very bad idea for ulaw/alaw faxing and data, disabling it will deliver better performance. If it doesn't you've got problems elsewhere.
