bobmeister: Finally got this all done.

Vodafone Naked Broadband 30GB, VOIP through 2talk. All working well. With the MySky discount I'm saving about $70 a month.

Its amazing the Broadband Speed difference from CallPlus to Vodafone. Download speeds went from around 5000 kbits to 12000 kbits using the same router. Then up to 13000 kbits when I plugged in the Vodafone Broadband Complete rotuer/modem.

Negotiating through the Vodafone Sales/Help desk quagmire was an interesting experience.

Bob, I just changed from Vodafone 20gb and fixed line to Naked DSL and 30gb plan with the free modem and signed up with 2talk $11.50 plan.... and It's also working for me both for making and recieving calls with my cordless panasonic phone :-) I have not signed up for Sky/MySky yet... the $25 or so im saving each month is subsidising my Smart 2 plan and my new Galaxy Tab :-)

italk + naked dsl, now using the VOIP option built in to the Vodafone wireless router. So all in a nice clean and tidy box.

Speed is fantastic, no issues at all. 30GB + VOIP line, still saving around $50 a month.

I tried this and got very loud line noise on my DECT phones, sounded like 50Hz hum. I changed back to the same solution on my old Thompson, but that doesn't have QoS and is becoming unreliable with age so I would prefer to use the vodafone one.

does your unit give you good phone sound quality?

Your experience on speed changes between vodafone and callplus is not what TrueNet are seeing. The differences between these two nationally are not that big. Is it possible you are on Vodafone's LLU? ie their red-zone? That may mean you went from a Vodafone bitstream service provided to Callplus to a Vodafone own service. The "may" is because it depends on where you are in NZ, LLU now means you never quite know who's DSLAM you are connected to, my description above is for Auckland.
What was your Callplus modem?

I think the speed difference is because the Vodafone connection goes through the newly commissioned Roadside Cabinet just up the road (we're not in the Red Zone), whereas the CallPlus connection did not. The old modem was a Netcomm something (with ADSL2).

I have been a CallPlus customer for a number of years and their attitude through this was less than encouraging. When I asked them about the speed of the line, they just said I was on an old connection, but did nothing about trying to put on a new connection.

When I asked them about Naked Broadband, I got a long email back from them telling me that it was a bad idea.

It was at that stage Vodafone started to look quite good. I bet I am still being charged for the CallPlus connection as well, even though Vodafone and me have told them to cancel it.

does your unit give you good phone sound quality?

Have a uniden dect phone, no issues with it in regards to a hum. Have tried with the Vodafone supplied router and my linksys spa 2102. :-)
