Yes, this issue needs to be addressed. I'm currently just not sure who to take it up with?

Yes, but there needs to be a way for everyone to ensure that address information for 111 providers is in a database that we can update in a meaningful way.

I have a 3yr old son in the house who couldn't tell you his address, but that doesn't mean his phone number 03 348 7235 is going to be in Auckland/London/where ever.... as a parent and user of voip services I do realise some obligation on my part to make sure the number is fixed for 111 services - that's obvious to me! :)

But who do I tell? Ring 111 and just have a chat?

Ring Telecom? not their problem is it? Or is it, they run the 111 service?

I suspect this is an issue to take up with the Telecommunication Forum, but who to talk to to get some meaning full discussion going.

Beccara:  Or your in one of those FTTH pilot areas and can't get a copper line...

FTTH pilot is currently only available through WorldxChange, and they fully support 111 service.

2.2. You understand that the VoIP service is not a traditional phone service and is provided on a best efforts basis. We will use all reasonable endeavours to make our services available to you at all times, however things beyond on control such as power outages or the performance of your internet connection may disrupt the service we provide.

2.3. You accept that our services are not required to support emergency calls........'

I'd think this is the more important issue than knowing your location....

Really I think all that stuff is bs... how hard is it to have a database that line owners can update with the prefered address?

Fully support is not the same as having the ability to map numbers to locations. My first take on "fully support 111 service" is they stand by their phone system's uptime

When you sign up to WorldxChange, you must supply physical address, which is lodged in the system as is a "normal" landline. It's only if you pull the box out and take it somewhere else that it would be an issue.

Thats great but it doesn't mean they have the ability to send it to 111, A provider I used to work for required an address aswell, It was for our own records.

Unless WxC state somewhere they can do this then I really doubt they can, I have asked these questions and pushed for this ability with all major PSTN interconnect companies including Telecom. All have stated there isn't a system in place to handle this. So unless Telecom has created an interface for WxC for the FTTH pilots I really doubt they have the ability to interface with the 111 db

That's what I'm trying to say - they do!

My advice would be to call the local station number, or see if *555 will be obliging and supply you the info on who to contact to register yourself. It's meant to be for non urgent calls/traffic complaints - But thay may be nice and put it in the NIA database there and then as these are the dispatch staff at the local regional Police HQ.

I wouldn't go bother 111 with that as if you deviate from their scripting they will go a little strange and likely send the heavies around ;)

The moment you call *555/111 and are on their CLI screen and report something and give your details its saved anyway (this is how they send officers to the door if cell calls have been made previously and address given, else they goto the provider for the Sim registration information which noone tends to update when they move. Last resort, pay for a trace to nearest 2 cell sites contacted to narrow the area)

Once again your just updating their records, there is nothing floating around to suggest it is passed to 111 in any way

Great! I stand corrected, They should plainly say it since google's coming up with jack and the site is vague about it

So now we all know there is an interface for it, If it's between WxC and Telecom then it really needs to be released to other VoIP providers in NZ
