Wow, I never realized I would get such a large response to this thread.
The problem I was having is that I got over 36 calls in 24hrs mostly from different numbers, some from the same number. One of the people I had called back and asked why they gave me a missed call with a baby in the background said it must have been her daughter and that she was sorry. The next day I got a call from the same number, a baby again so I called it back and spoke to the same lady. I warned her about the amount of false 111 calls and that she could be charged for such calls, then she told me that her baby had done that the week before and dialed 111!!! Well why do you still let your baby play with the phone when you know it could /did call 111.
When I was a child we didnt have digital phones that played nice dtmf etc, we had the old school stick your finger in the digits and spin it clock wise. Mum tells me she used to unplug it from the wall and let me play with it & when she learnt that all the kids loved phones, she managed to get old ones for us to play with. Perhaps get your child a toy phone rather; or unplug your land line from the wall jack if they going to play with it?
I have since forwarded the number to an audio message for now which I plan to setup some automation with and have a play at some point to give everyone a laugh. Thinking of automating it to record the conversation with the baby and act as a donation number, then call back to the number and thank them for the $200 donation they had just made, press 1 to cancel the donation, then when they press to cancel it adds more of a donation... At the very end to tell them its a joke and to not let their kids play with the phone because this should be a lesson of what could happen. :)
The polarised replies are probably more to do with how people read the question. Some read it as "Who lets their (something precious) play with the land line phone?"; others as "Who lets their babies play with (something precious)?
It was a trick question, compared to something like "Who lets their dingo play with the baby?"
However I think we've all learnt that having a phone number with a single repeated digit isn't as great as it sounds.
