Beccara: it really needs to be released to other VoIP providers in NZ

X3

Now, who do we follow this up with to get it done?

How do we get a simple interface so people building voip businesses can also interface their customers?

Ideally I'd like this all integrated into my own cms so I can push the details to the right providers.

That might be a little hairy, You need to ensure that you can't update bob's address down the road when your not bob. There would certainly be a pile of legal paper work to sign

What a load of bs...  you have to build these things on trust and just have clear penalties for doing the wrong thing.

There also needs to be some sort of validation in the system and a human intervention each time the address is changed to give you a quick call to verify that the change is valid and a mistake hasn't been made.

This is a job that could be handed to volunteer community police stations to process quickly enough.

"Hi, Don here from the Shirley community police station, we've just been notified that you've changed your address in the system, can you just confirm for me that we have the correct details for you?" - 5 minutes.

Let's not make it any more complex and harder than it really has to be.

Thats a lot of work :) It would be best to leave it to the PSTN interconnection company's who can then provide the interface to resellers/wholesale clients.

Having end users able to change things for something like 111 is not a good idea. You have to think worst case. I'm Joe Killer and I'm going to go kill Bob but first off I'm going to update his 111 location to the other side of town an hour before I storm his house!

What I meant with this is that it should part of signing up with a provider. Like with a standard landline.

Did you get that idea from your latest copy of 'tips and tricks for budding serial killers'?

I think there's a point at which the word 'over board' comes to mind.  I'm happy to accept that my approach might be a bit light, but yours is the other extreme to me.

Any system should also involve a monthly email to reconfirm you're still at the same location with the ability to extend the reminders out to 3 months.

I can see signing up to 2talk (which doesn't provide isp services), moving home, running your voip on your 3g till your fixed service is connected, connecting your fixed service, then just plugging your ATA into your new fixed service without even thinking about updating your details with 111/2talk/who ever.

With WorldxChange it does happen at sign up. This ^ is additional so you can keep it updated (e.g. if you run their VoIP service through an other ISP's internet connection, and a change of address may not be picked if you move). Obviously when this is tied to Xnet Fusion service, if you move, the updated will be part of that.

Really? Who thought that was ever a good idea, the risk's of that far outweigh any benefits

It does say in the FAQ it could take up to 3 months for your changes to make it into that database. That's also assuming they deem your changes correct...

Thankfully because Terralink does some QA on the updates, It's still more open to abuse than a closed off system like having to walk into your local council to update it
