In the past I have used the Skype Email Toolbar for Microsoft outlook.  This gave me the ability to make Skype calls from my outlook user interface.

Last week Skype realised Skype 6.1 for windows Desktop with Outlook Integration which provides some nice integration features between Skype and Outlook 2010.

When I downloaded and installed the Skype update, I found the promised features did not work.  Many others found the same issue.

The solution was to make a registry change, and now all works as expected.

I love how you start a software, click "Check for Update" and it says I'm running the latest version when I am not.

Yes I have struck that a few times, including today.  Before downloading the update mentioned above, I checked for updates and it said I already had the latest version?????

Ok, manually updated Skype. Integration is weak at best. Not everyone who sends me emails use the same address for Skype or Windows Messenger. Presence is not accurate because of that.

On top of this, Skype doesn't show what's the contact email address so I can't even put that in my Outlook contacts.

Not impressed.

What I like is the call integration.  Select any contact you want to call and left click -> Call.  This feature use to go to my modem – now it works via Skype.

Yes that works fine.

By the way, installed the update and checked the registry, the key list in the article you linked existed and was correctly set to "Skype". I wonder if you ever had Lync installed and Skype wouldn't change existing settings in that key for people who previously had Lync installed.

I do have Lync installed, but my default was set to “Communicator”.  Must have been something I played with some time back?

That could be the case (re Lync conflicts) as I'm running both on my laptop and the Skype integration definitely didn't work as described with first installed/updated.
