I've just received a Panasonic KX-TGP500 to replace the dying Siemens IP phone I use with 2talk, and I have configued it with the usual settings but just can't seem to get it to work.

The phone will register, but I can't make any calls in or out. Trying to dial out I just get a tone similar to the NZ busy indication (but no message to indicate what the problem is).

With an incoming call, the phone rings, but as soon as it's answered, it just drops the call to both parties.

I don't have any issues like this with either the Siemens phone I've been using until now, or the CSIPSimple soft phone on my Android.

Any ideas?

Further:

If I call from other 2talk line (Eg. from my Android softphone), when I answer the call on the Panasonic CSIPSimple reports '403/Forbidden' as it terminates the call.

More again:

So looks like this is only failing for my AU line using the 2talk.com.au proxy. If I register to sip.2talk.co.nz it all works fine. As do NZ numbers on the NZ proxy.

Funny thing is, it works fine using the AU proxy on my Siemens with exactly the same parameters!

Ahhhhh!

I was going to add, if you get super stuck, I can give you remote access into my one to see the settings that work.

Strange thing is that if I change the server from sip.2talk.com.au to sip.2talk.co.nz everything works fine! (Aside from the fact I have to dial out local AU as 0061x)

But sip.2talk.com.au works 100% fine on my Siemens phone!

Frustrating!

Raise a ticket with them, you should get a response around Christmas time.

I raised a ticket about something else yesterday and just got a reply. Have raised this with them now too.

I *suspect* it is something to do with 2talk plus, which doesn't seem to work yet on their AU proxy. My thinking is it may be the G.722 codec, which seems impossible to turn off in the Panasonic, but doesn't work on 2talk without plus.

I'm also a bit disappointed that there doesn't seem to be a way to automatically select which line to dial out of (Either by dial plan or by phone book entry). You have to manually select the line you want to use first, then either dial the number or dial from phone book. This might be a show stopper for me and I might end up just registering the Panasonic handset back to my Siemens base, which can quite happily determine what line to dial out on.

Even more disapponted with this.

I hated the Siemens handset I have. The UI is slow as anything, and the handset itself is overly quiet.

I love the Panasonic handset. It's loud, it's interface is instant and it works.

The base stations however are the opposite. The Siemens base station has all the right features and configuration was a breeze.

So, I thought, I will just register the Panasonic handset to the Siemens base. They are all DECT so all should be good I thought.

Sadly not. While the handset registers and works OK - I get no CID at all for incoming calls on the Panasonic handset on the Siemens base, and the ring tone is contant when it rings. Rather than ring-ring, ring-ring etc its just riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing - for 20 seconds until the VM kicks in.

Back to the drawing board I think.

I personally think the Gigaset gear is totally fine for the home situation. Yes the UI is a bit sluggish and there are a few weird things but at the end of the day how often do you really have to access the interface?
At the end of the day they are a good, CHEAP, solution for the home enviroment. If you want the same functionality that you see in desk top IP phones you need to look at people like Snom or Verse for their IP DECT solutions... the prices will make you like your Siemens gear.

The issue of putting the Panasonic phones on the Siemens base is a weird one. I have had good success with siemens phones on other bases but never used panasonic.
