I have had this router for ages but have never enjoyed rock solid reliability that other boast of.
I seem to be having problems usualy when I YouTube or utorrent and my connection suddenly gets very slow.
If i try to talk on the phone while someone in surfing the net, It kills the quality of the call and I get dropouts in the call. Bandwidth is not an issue as I am on cable and rebooting the WRP400 corrects what ever was going wrong . I don't expect the thing to be perfect but rebooting every day, sometimes twice is just driving me crazy. Anyone had this issue and solve it?

We have seen this on occasions with some of our users, It appears that certain unknown types of traffic can cause a memory leak on the box which fit the symptoms you describe are seeing, a reboot obliviously clears the problem.

This box is now at end of live with no updates coming from Cisco for some time so we have not been able to get Cisco to look at this. One of the reasons of why we are bring a new box into the market in the very near future

Did you configure the device yourself who are you using as your VoIP provider?

If you did you can set "Restrict source IP" to Yes which will stop SIP bots attacking the device which is a common cause of lockups. You will need to check with your VoIP provider if this option will work with them, I know it didn't use to work with italk or 2talk as their traffic originated from multiple IP's.

I am with World Exchange on the Vodafone/Telstra cable network.
Device is configured and updated by World Exchange

In which case that won't be the issue. Your issue will just be the memory leak when you thrash the router with heavy throughput torrenting.

Any suggestions for a replacement device that will be able to handle my traffic requirements?
Vodafone are going to upgrade my old motorola surfboard modem with a wireless router next week (upgrade to 100mbps connection)so i possibly don't require a router as the WRP400 was.
My home network consists of 2 PCs (both on the internet) and 1 voip connected phone

If you are already getting a wireless router, then just an ATA would work fine, this won't do any routing and it would only handle your VoIP calls, so throughput shouldn't be an issue.

I'd say go for the Cisco SPA112 of SPA122.

On second thought, why don't you just use your WRP400 as an ATA from there on, it shouldn't get those problems if you are only passing voip traffic through it.

If your modem is upgraded to DOCSIS3 you'll still need a router.

If they do provide you with a free router your best option may just be to out the WRP400 behind it and ensure that if your new router has a SIP ALG setting that it's disabled.
