Hi, can anyone please recommend a voip phone as I am about to go Naked DSL. Ideally it would be nice to have two handsets. I have wired ethernet throughout the house so connectivity is not an issue.

Is it possible to buy a device that would enable me to use my existing analogue Panasonic handsets? Just a thought!

Also, aside from Skype, would you recommend any other VOIP service. I will be mainly making and receiving calls to the UK.

Look up ATA. Depending which ISP you're going with, the modem they supply may have one built in. You can also buy standalone units.

I'm using 2 panasonic DECT phones with the fritzbox from snap. One using the fritzbox as the DECT base station and the other just plugged into one of the fon ports. They're just cheap panasonic dect phones and work well. Only slight annoyance is that the one registered with the fritzbox dect doesn't do caller id. Works fine on the one plugged into the fon port though.

If UK calling is a big thing a UK VoIP provider would be a good option as you can get a local number for receiving calls meaning people won't need to ring NZ.

I would suggest slingshot italk. But they have outstanding issues which have been going on since Dec last year. So don't bother with them. You won't be able to configure your settings via the web interface unless you have slingshot as your ISP.

telfree.co.za is good for internartional numbers. I have a south African number setup with them. Its free.

2talk with gigaset c610ip is awesomely rock solid for me.

What sort of customer service do you want with your voice provider? I would suggest avoiding Skype and using whatever VoIP service is offered by your ISP, since they will have better control of the voice quality than third party VoIP services, and they can move your existing landline number onto the new VoIP service.

Do you need a digital phone at all? Otherwise get an ATA that will just provide analogue output that you can connect 2 or 3 phones onto by bridging the blue wires from the phone outlets at your patch panel (or just connecting them into an RJ11 double adapter).

Time to find a new industry!

2Talk and my handset is a cheap android 2.3 phone that connects to my ndsl wifi, works very nicely.

I use Skype and VFX for exactly the setup the OP wants.

I believe 2talk do UK numbers so may work out cheaper for you.

Been using Skype like this for >5 years now and VFX for 3-4 years and never really had an issue. Be warned though, Skype is almost impossible to get hold of if you have a problem.

Soho66 are good if you go for a UK number and they will do sip forwarding if your VoIP service here accepts it.

We use a Linksys ATA for setup which both 2talk and VFX will setup and run remotely for you. We've moved house 4 times in 4 years and had uninterrupted service from VFX.
