Currently signed up with Voyager Internet, received the Juniper SRX110 modem.
Now i need to get a phone, but was told i need an ATA ( Analog telephone adapter ) device?

Do i need an ATA device if i get a Cisco CP-7965G IP Phone?

I don't even see how an ATA would work with a 7965G, the ATA is to adapt an analog phone (which te 7965G is not) to a digital/IP network. I would expect the 7965G to work natively, but I haven't personally used Voyagers VOIP services.

An ata is an alternative to an ip phone. It plugs into your router and connects to the isp's voice platform, to register you as available for pstn calls.

At your end you get presented with an old rj-11 style connection to plug your existing analogue phones into.

Alternatively, you can plug a Cisco phone into your router and have that act as your phone.

In both cases, the service provider needs to confirm with you they will support the widget and can configure it for you over your connection. It's a pain the backend to do self support but it can be done.

Afraid it's a return call to voyager to see what they will support for you.....

Perhaps voyager thought u needed an analogue fone? Doesnt look like the 110 has any fxs ports so the ata may just have been an add value sale. I wonder how many others got an ata.......
