I have a free 2talk 028 number which is connected to a softphone (3cx phone) on my computer.

I can call the 028 number from my two degrees cellphone number, and vice versa. I can call my vodafone business landline from the 028 softphone.

However when I call the 028 number from my business landline it just gives some sort of disconnected signal (not the engaged signal or anything like that.)

live.2talk.co.nz shows my number is online and from the right IP address.

Does anyone have any clues as to what I am doing wrong?

What is the business landline connections? POTS? ISDN? VoIP?

Is there a PBX in use? If so, it may not have a dial plan that knows about 028 numbers.

Is it VoIP? Also may be dial plan issue.

The landline is POTS, we have an internal very simple analogue PABX, but once I press an outside line button it is connected to the POTS line. It was originally TC but vodafone took them over of course.

As long as you're getting the outside line without interference from the PBX, it sounds like an issue at Vodafone's end. I'd start with logging a ticket with them.

I'm thinking so too.

I'll try from home tonight, I am on VF landline there too.

That's weird.

The number is

0288920xx - and that is my login to the 2talk website and works to log the soft phone in to their SIP system.

If I call that number from my celllphone it connects to the softphone, but it won't work from my landline.

If I put an extra 9 in the number, 02889920xx then it works from the landline.

I recall there was an extra digit added to the number at some point after I registered. However I was fooled by the fact that this extra digit is not needed to log into the 2talk system.

So TL;DR I was dialling the wrong bloody number from the landline. Why it works from my cellphone I wouldn't know.

Could the contact in the cell phone have the correct number attached to it?

It's possible that both numbers are valid and route to your endpoint within 2Talk's network, but that some networks route both the shorter and longer version to 2Talk and the Vodafone fixed network only forwards numbers of the longer digit length, rejecting the shorter number.

Good stuff. The old numbers werent compliant with the NAD rules, so some carriers stopped routing them. I only use my 028 numbers for testing and call routing, so I just registered new ones after the change

That is the only explanation I can think of!
