Am off overseas for a bit. Intended to set up a NZ Skype Number, as I have done in the UK previously, so that I can point my NZ mobile number at it. NZ callers call my mobile, diverts to Skype Number (free), rings me wherever in the world. But they want $20 per 3 months, which seems pricey. Any better/cheaper alternatives?  I looked at the Google offering but that only has US numbers.

2talk free - http://www.2talk.co.nz/voice.html?p=home ? Gives you an 028 number which you can connect to via SIP. You sure diverting the call itself is free?

Numbers cost money to provide - they have to recover costs, and have to buy them through middlemen since they aren't technically allowed NZ numbers since they are not a NZ provider.

You can always find Skype voucher codes to buy Skype credit every month almost. I bulk buy. Try GIFT30 code (30% off) when buying an eGift card. You can gift it to yourself. Code does take 24 hour to be emailed once purchased via skype's website.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Thanks for that tip, will give it a go. Unfortunately that code has expired but I will try and track down another.

If you get a 2degrees number diverted to Skype it will cost YOU money.

Just do as above, get a 2talk number, it's free. You get a 028 number which will cost callers the same as a mobile phone call. And use a SIP client on your smartphone, PC, router, etc...

Ok. But I have a $39 contract I can't cancel, figured I could use the credit in that in some way. Maybe not, will check the Ts&Cs.

Should be able to use the contract minutes to divert incoming calls to the 028 2talk number.
