Who has seen this?.....

Unifi VoIP

The phones look awesome! But what puts me off a little is the use of the word 'propriety' but then they say it has SIP support. I assume it will have SIP trunk support and the phones will use propriety protocols back to the PABX. Probably not a bad thing though as I'm guessing deployment will be as easy as Unifi WAP's are to install.

What do you reckon?

Almost looks like that screen pulls out and you could wonder around using it as a mobile device - that would be very cool, but alas I see no pictures of such a scenario :(

Interesting.. one of the biggest problems with open source/free PBX packages is the issue of provisioning. Especially because so many are being managed by just general networking people not VoIP or telephony specialists.
Know of a recent 80 phone deployment where the guys couldn't be bothered sorting out the provisioning files so had to configure each one by hand - crazy!
I assume the UniFi platform will basically just manage the provisioning, hopefully things like speed dials etc too. Just hope Ubiquiti can cope with their rapid expansion of product sets - UniFi wifi only just provides enough functionality/flexibility for me at the moment and telephony is significantly more complicated than managing a few wifi APs.

That's what I tend to think too hence being disappointed that they don't seem say the phones are SIP capable. I would far prefer to just use the Unifi platform for the provisioningbut have them register bacl to a proper PABX like FreePBX.

Just as an aside too, provisioning in FreePBX is super simple with the End Point Manager. If these phones were SIP capable and are provisioned with standard techniques like http, tftp etc I would bet they would build a configuration in tbe FreePBX end point manager quickly. I wouldn't deploy FreePBX without getting the EPM license, it's just so good.

Like most new UBNT products I wouldn't even consider using it for a year after the release date, which considering the number of other announced (but yet to be shipped products) could still be many months ago.

I just wish they'd focus on fixing what they have first.
