I'm looking for a simple ATA to hang off an existing Huawei HG630b Spark modem/router on an existing Spark VDSL connection and connect up to an existing 2Talk service. There will only be one cordless DECT phone attached, and only one 2Talk VOIP account involved (i.e. very simple setup).

I want something that is proven to work well with the 2Talk system with minimal hassle. Preference is for something that is easy to auto-provision, but I'm happy to manually configure if required.

What's the current recommendation? I see a few older threads mentioning the Cisco SPA122, is that still my best bet?

Cisco SPA112. You don't need a 122 as you don't need the router capabilities.

If you know anything about VoIP you could use one of the OBi adapters that I just played with - vastly more options than the Cisco gear, but you'll be completely on your own when it comes to configuration so I wouldn't recommend it if you k now nothing about VoIP.

Obi stuff does.

The problem with the Cisco stuff now is that it's effectively end of line. With Cisco having laid off virtually all their SMB team there is unlikely to be any further development of any of their SMB voice products or any further development beyond security issues or major bug fixes.

I had issues with the Cisco and 2talk some years back and switched to audio codes which has been rock solid. Will source the obi gear and see how it goes. Audio codes is overkill.

I've only played with the OBi 200 that OBi gave me, and after playing with this all weekend I can't think of a single thing the Cisco does better. Clearly in the case of 2talk you should buy approved hardware that can be autoprovisioned because there are so many settings that need to be set correctly, but I see Obihai going places, especially if Cisco do soon dump their SMB voice products which has been rumoured.

Slightly O/T, but is anyone aware if the Spark Huawei HG659b can be made to work with a 2Talk VOIP account? I see that this device has two RJ11 ports and VOIP functionality included, I'm just not sure if it is locked down to Spark only or can be set up with a third party VOIP service.

Huh cool. I was given an Obi 100 purely as a 'Google voice gateway' so we could integrate Google voice in to a phone system via an analogue trunk. I just thought what a heap of junk and that it was pointless so didn't even look in to it - must pull that out again and have a look.

But yep.... for 2talk get a SPA112 and use the auto-provisioning tool and all will be good.

If you can get in to the SIP settings I don't see any reason why you couldn't. The great thing about 2talk is they really don't care what you connect, just that you pay them lol.

I used one of these a year or so ago .. Vodafone one.. worked ok but I dont think it handled 729 codec which can be handy and It had problems with messsage waiting passing that signal on .. (It has its own message waiting light).. and a few other settings I never really was able to get it bullet proof.

Predictions are hard to make. Especially when they are about the future.
