Hi There!

I am trying to update one of my SPA2102's to Firmware 5.2.13 from 5.2.5.

I have downloaded the firmware from cisco, extracted it and run upg-spa2102-5-2-13.exe

It runs and asks for ip, then password, which I provide to which it then throws an error:

Error: Run-Time Check Failure #2 - Stack around the variable 'strNc' was corrupted.

I found a post recommending blanking the password, but the update says it REQUIRES one.

Any bright ideas?

Might be stating the obvious but have you tried resetting the SPA2102 to factory default then trying the update.

No I was trying to do this remotely, without having to go onsite.

Why not use a provisioning URL? It's a billion times easier.

It's provisioned already, but how would that update the firmware?

URL to download the firmware. Only time I've ever used the app to update a device was once when I bricked one. If it has an admin password set, you need this to update the firmware.

I am not aware this is an option, is this something our VOIP Provider (Conversant) would provide us?

No idea.

If you were my customer I wouldn't provide you with an admin password to play with a device, everything is fully locked down and managed.. Makes we wonder why they're not fully managing the device and controlling the firmware, seems like a poor attempt at auto provisioning.

Well a google search found that I should be able to put the bin file on a http server and point the spa to it, and when I tried this it told me it would do the firmware update when it was not "busy" but a while later it's not done. It didn't indicate a password requirement.

Edit: Seems to have been delayed, Working and upgraded now. Thanks for your assistance.

A Sample URL Would be:

http://192.168.2.77/upgrade?http://host.co.nz/spa2102.bin

If they did it, I wouldn't need to :)

They no longer recommend these legacy ATA's, but given we use the home phone maybe 5 times a month for 3 minutes or so, hardly seems worth rekitting the entire house with "new" digital wireless devices at a cost of hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
