We're in teh process of setting up a Grandstream UCM6102 PABX in our offices.  It currnetly has two analogue trunks (both over ATA's from different providers) that we're phasing out and replacing with all our lines coming over a 2Talk SIP trunk.

While testing today from a vodafone mobile, we noticed that the incoming line rings about five times before the extension starts ringing.  Can we improve this, or is that normal?

How long between the mobile ringing the and SIP INVITE hitting your PBX?

Without being too scientific about it - it seems to be about ten seconds (or three rings on the mobile before the extension rings).

Seems to be worse on the ATA lines compared to the SIP trunk.

So 10 seconds from the ringing starting until the SIP INVITE hits your PBX?

As above, you need to figure out if the delay is actually happening locally or simply just within the mobile/2Talk network.

Do some packet traces and see what happens.

As for the ATA's.... the delay you see there might be the PABX listening for CLI info but none is being transitted from the ATA. The fix would be on the PABX tell it not to listen for CLI on the analogue trunks.

Might have to investigate this in more depth.  SIP lines seem fine - calling from extension > PABX > 2talk > PABX >other extension works fine.  Receiving extension is ringing before the end of the first caller ring (if that makes sense)

Analogue lines (VOIP to ATA to PAXB FXS) has the long lag time.

An easy fix would be to port all the numbers to 2Talk, but I'd like to understand if there is a way to improve the 'analogue' trunks.  Suspect it might be related to the Digital > Analogue > Digital conversion?

Seems a bit bizarre to have your trunks on ATA's if your PABX is SIP capable. I assume they are a managed service so you dont have the registration details?

I would guess that the delay you are experiencing is probably a mix of the fact that the ATA's are in the middle, but also the PABX is looking for CLIP info but not getting it from the ATA.

Running the ATA's is not ideal - that's why we're moving to the PABX and consolidating all the numbers to one provider.

But until the numbers are provisioned across, we've got this long delay on analogue lines.

Sound like we might just have to live with it for a week or so.

There are various reason. Without knowing the hardware, how it's configured and looking at a SIP trace and seeing the timings of the SIP OPTIONS it's not possible to help you any further.

I see that unit has a 'LAN' and 'WAN' port. Do you have the option to mirror the interfaces? If yes, then do that and run a packet capture with wireshark.
