Well I've just wasted 3 hours trying to get my SPA122 connected to a 2talk account without luck.

I tried setting up with the provisioning instructions here:

https://live.2talk.co.nz/provisioning/ciscospa122-guide.html

The first issue struck was the instructions given:

"Dial * * * *

  • You should hear a voice prompt "Cisco Configuration Menu, please enter Option followed by the pound key"
  • Now press 7 3 7 3 8 # on the keypad
  • Next press 1 to confirm.
  • Hang up"
...which appear to factory reset the device? At the very least it wiped out my previously set up network settings and I had to go through the whole setting up an IP process again.

Would be kind of helpful if 2talk explained what this does and provided a warning, but no.
Another 90 minutes of trying to get it to work and I have discovered the provisioning URL:

https://cprov.2talk.co.nz/linksys/<My MAC ADDRESS HERE>/spa1xx.cfg

..results in an SSL ceritifcate error

http://cprov.2talk.co.nz/linksys/<My MAC ADDRESS HERE>/spa1xx.cfg

results in a 404 error! So it appears nobody will be able to use provisioning at all at the moment.

I then spent spent 40 minutes copying over the manual settings from here -   http://blog.2talk.co.nz/spa122.html - and still no luck.  I can see the SPA122 trying to register now but it just fails every time. User ID & password are correct so I'm at a loss.

Everything about 2talk.co.nz screams lack of support, apathy and inattention to maintaining documentation.

I've left a complaint with 2talk support and hopefully will get an answer and solution soon but given general indications about 2talk support quality I'm not particularly hopeful.

In the meantime, is there any chance someone with a SPA122 and 2talk could save their config and share it with me? Temporarily change your SPA122 password and 2talk login details before exporting the config of course.

Thank you!

Phill

The instructions did warn you it will reset your device (see step three).

Did you copy the URL across as $MA as shown or did you substitute your MAC address in there?

What router are you using?

SIP is a pain to get working. Firewalls and differing NAT implementations can also cause issues.

You're not using custom DNS servers in your router by chance are you? Try putting your ISPs DNS IP's in the SPA and see what happens.

Cheers, Matt.

Hmm... ok, fair call. It mentioned the factory reset above all the photos and I missed that because I already had it all plugged in.  Moving the factory reset warning to the section actually doing a factory reset would be helpful. :)

As for the rest, I may well have to eat humble pie and apologise to 2talk.

I've just plugged in my second SPA122 and I seem to be making progress. It may well be that my first SPA122 is not fully functional.  Testing now - I'll post back soon.

You shouldn't put your own mac address in. The $MA is a variable that the spa will populate when it sends the request. Also, it should just be https.

edit: typo

I didn't put my MAC address in initially - I used the $MA. I only put my mac address in while trying to trigger the provisioning update directly via the URL rather than the admin interface which wasn't working.

Anyway... the issues have been partially solved.  It turns out that one of the SPA122's has hardware damage (line 1 doesn't work, settings won't stick) and the other is an older V01 which is working now but constantly seems to lose it's local LAN ip meaning any configuration changes need to be done directly via ethernet cable rather than over the LAN.

I'd struggle to believe you have two devices that have failures. I've deployed literally hundreds and hundreds of these and have had a single failure of any Sipura or Cisco ATA which had been around for probably 5 years and suffered from a power surge. They are one of the most robust pieces of hardware I've ever come across.

A device losing it's LAN IP would suggest incorrect configuration.

Both units were second hand from trademe. Both are V01.

The latest one arrived with the Line 1 socket not working.  It has never produced dial tone on that socket. Line 2 works fine. It took me a while to figure this out because I was testing with Line 2 initially and hadn't plugged a phone into Line 1.  I've reinstalled firmware twice and no improvement.

The other one is sitting on my desk working fine.  It's connected via the blue internet socket and the line and phone are operational.

However, when I set the local network IP to be LAN accessible and either reboot or disconnect the yellow LAN cable after configuring, the network IP resets.  If I had the LAN ip set to 192.168.1.7 then it doesn't reset back to the factory setting (192.168.15.1), it resets to 192.168.15.7.  Likewise when the local network IP changes the admin password resets back to "admin".

I have checked the configuration numerous times.  :(

I agree that these units are rock solid. We have two other SPA122's here that have been connected via kiwilink and have never skipped a beat for 18 months.  Both units are configured for LAN access and working perfectly. I have checked the working configs against the newly set up devices and the settings are the same.

So yes, it is both extremely weird and extremely frustrating. :(
