We are considering dropping our 2 x ATA and 2 x Dect Uniden Phones in favour of Native IP Phones. My wife uses a Bluetooth Headset with the Unidens we currently use and doesn't want to lose this functionality.

Anyone able to make suggestions? Is battery life comparable to what we have now? Range?

Panasonic do a TGP600 that will do native SIP, then a UDT121 as an extra handset will do Bluetooth and DECT.
a nice clean solution, however $$$

The only thing about the Panasonic cordless phones is that their UI is just plain ugly and horrible to use (eg compared to a Gigaset or a Yealink) :(

As for Yealink's own BT support; as far as I know they only support it on some of their desk phones, not the cordlesses. Oh and the range on the Yealink USB BT dongle on the deskphones is terrible! (10meter BT, not 100meter BT).

If you wife already has a smartphone have you considered using a softphone client (eg Bria on ios, or the built-in SIP client on Android) and peering the smartphone to the BT headset? That would allow her to use it for both cell and home SIP calls. Just a thought.

Hi,

I use the Panasonic TGP550 at home at the moment and it has worked very well on 2Talk.
I am upgrading to a TGP600 soon. The interface is plain and straight forward, and the phones are reliable.

Looks to me like the base unit is an ATA? Not sure if that helps me from where I am now right?

Just beware though if you intend to get in from overseas, my advice is don't at risk of JohnR and the black helicopter and the RSM guys knocking down your door with a radio spectrum violation :)
There are serval overseas variants including one that I think operates on 2100, thus killing your local cellphone tower.

Not as yet, it is relatively a new product, next generation so to speak. Looks like not yet released anywhere overseas either.

I will advise as soon as it is here, or I know more.

I've only seen bluetooth on fixed handsets, and they tend to be spendy. I use a bluetooth headset for a couple of other things, and the range isn't great. I think this is more designed for wandering around an office, rather than wandering around a house.

We use a Siemens Gigaset (C610IP) cordless phone. It has a mini (2.5mm) headset jack for a regular phone headset. Stick the phone in your pocket (or clip it to your belt so long as no one can see you). The phone talking to the base uses DECT so we find the range and quality of the calls great. One base lets you add up to 6 handsets.

Siemens also does a stand-alone handsfree "clip". Haven't tried it but could be a possibility.

Well the range shouldn't be an issue because the phone will be clipped to her waist and the headset in her ear.

Actually, if your current DECT phones are GAP compatible and you get a new GAP VOIP DECT base (too many acronyms) you should just be able to register the old handsets to the new base.

Now to your other option already mentioned but amended slightly that might be the cheaper solution.

Have a look at the Panasonic KX-TGP600 Bundle, just drop the Handset that comes with it and get a KX-UDT121 or a KX-UDT131

I can do a bundle for you:

KX-TGP600 + KX-UDT121 - $500.00 + GST
KX-TGP600 + KX-UDT131 - $580.00 + GST

Wow that's huge money! No wonder people are dropping their landline phones! I think it might be cheaper and easier to pick up a couple of Galaxy S3's or S4's second hand and use those, any downside you can think of? If I bought a couple of charging stations, I'd be all said and done for $500 for 2.

I can see any reason that would not work, have not had experience with it so could not advise for or against it.

I guess the M85 is more designed for business use, definitely is not priced for the consumer market, and no doubt there will be repricing once they see where the phone fits.
