Anybody have a good linux softphone they could recommend?  I've come across a client with a few Ubuntu desktops that need softphones.

Many thanks.

I have heard good things about Ekiga. But when we tried to use it (over a VPN with a possibly dodgy Asterisk implementation), it sadly didn't work all that well. It worked. Usually. Not always, though. I'm not sure exactly where the problem is in our case.

But, yes, Ekiga comes with Ubuntu, so you should definitely give it a try. Your mileage may vary, though.

Then there is also OpenWengo. I have heard people say good things about that as well, even though I have not used it myself.

I used OpenWengo at one point, it was pretty average IMO... (But lets face it, average is better than half the offerings :-P)

Uhm... wouldn't that be the median then, rather than the average? Wink

Thanks for all your replies. I sent through all of your suggestions to my client who ended up finding Twinkle and is happy using that.

I spose I'll be back here in a couple months looking for a Mac softphone Smile

/why can't everyone just use Windows? Surprised
