I have both a standard 2talk and mycloudtelco accounts and I want to get local wanaka numbers 03 443 XXXX.
These are in short supply and 2talk doesn't offer them they only offer 03 927 XXXX or other similar numbers beginning with 9 that nobody recognises as a local number.
Vodafone and Spark still have numbers but i suspect A) they got a block before they ran out and B) They are recycling numbers as people leave.

Is there some way that I can purchase these somewhere else, not be tied in for any length of time and port them over to another provider?

I have asked 2talk and they just keep saying they will have them when they can.

When a friend wanted a normal auckland number on their voip, the way we did it was call spark (was telecom at the time) and ask for a customerlink number, they will want another number to send it thru to and an account to bill it to. Don't mention porting to them since the first person started to get all confused by that.

Then port the number off that spark account to 2talk just like any other port.

As mentioned above, call Spark and ask for a new Customerlink number.
This is exactly what I did in New Plymouth to get 3 local numbers, paid a small fee to get each set up (can't remember exactly, maybe $20+gst per number?), then once you have the number port to 2talk.

Edit: This page shows the $20+gst pricing: https://www.spark.co.nz/business/shop/voice/inbound/customerlink/

Just a little bit of clarification here - 03 927xxxx *is* a local number that belongs to the Wanaka LICA and is a number block that belongs to M2. The 03 443xxxx number block is also in the Wanaka LICA.

A provider like 2talk can't issue a 03 443xxxx number as they're not their numbers to issue. If you want one of these numbers you'll need to approach Spark to get a number allocated, and then port it. The best approach is to get is provisioned as a Customerlink number as mentioned above.

With the number of ranges in every LICA now it all comes down to perception, and clearly lots of old people who don't understand that numbers aren't just issued by Spark and can have different ranges but still be in the same LICA can struggle with the concept.

Is it your only solution. As you want a Spark number, Spark are the only provider who can allocate one of these for you.

It's correct that ordering a product from Spark is the only solution, but CustomerLink isn't the only way to do it*.

I once ordered another whole PoTS circuit into my house to achieve the same thing before I learnt about CustomerLink. This entailed the Telecom technician (no Chorus split in those days) hanging a new aerial copper cable 3 poles along the street then into my property, and terminating into a new master jack in my house. It was live for 3 days before I ported it to VoIP ;) The master-jack with NU tone on it is still there to this day!

[*] CustomerLink it is however the easiest & cheapest way

Ps, on a side note, has anyone noticed that when you elect to 'disconnect other numbers' during a bulk port process to 2talk that they actually port the 'to be disconnected' numbers anyway? I think the porting cost to them is very low so they port them and put them in a pool of spare numbers from other provider allocations that they keep in their back pocket for times of need (eg when an important customer really needs some new 'Spark numbers' in some location somewhere, and they care enough about said customer to help them out).
