Hi,

I have a landline in Morocco and go often to Canada. I want to save on long distance price.

I want to receive and place calls on the landline in Morocco when I'm in Canada ideally with my Iphone (if it's less complicated, on a home phone or maybe both).

I have high speed internet at both places.

What do I need to accomplish that?

I read a lot of forums, but there is no simple procedure like: buy that box, configure it that way and use this app on the smartphone.

I'm a computer tech, I know a lot of things, but VoIP, PBX, SIP... seems more complicated than I tough.

Thanks for help and sorry if it was already answered but I didn't find it, maybe I didn't know exactly what terms to search.

Setup the phone number with VoIP provider that also has an iOS app that can get the calls.
Otherwise get a Skype call in number with the local area code you want.

The problem is that skype don't offer numbers in Morocco, and I think no provider offer one.

The answer you provided me was the same I read on many forums, so does anyone know how can I connect in Canada to my landline in Morocco?

I don't want to have a VoIP provider, I want to be one.

Thanks.

You want something like a Linksys SPA3000. Setting it up will be a challenge if you don't know much about VoIP.

Hi,

thanks for your answer, it's probably more focused on what I want.

I know how to configure a router to open ports and I know how to setup a dyndns; I'm not so bad in network understanding as I have learned assistant administrator and I repair computers full time.

If you think a SPA3000 is the right box, I can read the manual, but I may be lost quite fast, but if you know a website somewhere that explain how to configure it the way I need it, it would make my day.

I searched rapidly a VoIP provider in Morocco and found some, but they charged 525 euro per month for a number, other countries is under 10 euro !!! That's why I started this tread.

Thanks.

The feature you're looking for is called FXO. I haven't set one up before though so don't have a guide for you.

Whatever you do you have to be careful not to port forward indiscriminately. Make sure you can restrict inbound to only certain IP addresses or there is a real risk of your account being used by third parties to place phone calls without you knowing - or at least not knowing until the next bill comes in.
