We recently switched over to Vodafone Fibre at work which included two SIP lines provided on the supplied HG659 modem. I though it would be a simple matter of patching that through to our ancient yet reliable SBX6 however that will not play ball.

There are various options including virtual PBX solutions, however I want to keep it simple and cheap, and just want a replacement for the SBX6 that utilises FXO and FSX analog ports so I can keep existing hardware in the premises.

I found the Yeastar MyPBX U100 which is a 1U rack mount model IP PBX for up to 25 concurrent calls and 100 users. Internally, it supports network access to ISDN BRI, PSTN, GSM/UMTS and VoIP. This has up to 16 possible analog ports and seems to be a good choice for futureproofing any possible expansion of the business.

Can anyone confirm that this would be an acceptable replacement for the trusty SBX6? Or are there better options?

Thanks

With Vodafone, their VoIP is locked to their Modem's, so you will not be able to connect via Pure VoIP, therefore in your scenario, an IP PBX is not required, however For future proofing, I would go for one.

the yeastar is a good unit and would future proof your business but if you have had an SBX then you probably have at least 6 analog handsets so will need 3 x FXS cards and 1 FXO card for the lines from vodafone.

the grandstream ucm 6100 series may be an option for you as well depending on how much you want to spend.

I suspect that these are conflicting requirements.

I would seriously consider the option of going to SIP Trunk and software based PBX, or at this scale some Cloud PBX solution.  Ditch the analog gear.  If you really, really want to keep your handsets, you'll need an FXS gateway, but they are not all that cheap for something with 6 ports, to the point where you may as well replace the (presumably quite old anyway) handsets too.

Are you sure that the unreliability is coming from the old SBX 6 and not just the voip from the router in general?

Thanks all for the valuable feedback.

I suspect the old SBX6 is expecting 50v from the exchange however thats not forthcoming from the Vodafone router.

We have decided to get a local telecom firm to install a new LG-Ericsson system.
