I'm looking at setting up a USA 1 800 number that we will service from NZ using VOIP

Has anyone got reccomendations/experience with doing this

I know I want it VOIP based like 2Talk does in NZ with voicemail to email if not answered etc..

The big thing is I want to ensure we own the number and if we ever need to port the number

to another VOIP provider or even a USA based call centre we can

(I have been caught out in the past where the provider "OWNS" the number and we are stuck with them.

I know 2talk does some international numbers but 1 800 ones tend to be trickier and if its outside of normal

2Talk just shrugs and gives up ..

Thanks

I use Callcentric as a US VoIP provider and have never had any issues.

No idea what the issue us with portability though, it's complex in lots of countries (Australia being particularly bad due to the ACMA rules).

I've used tollfreeforwarding.com who will forward to any number and support voicemail to email. All the setup is done through their web portal. I was able to ask for a specific number or there is a drop down list of numbers immediately available.
