I've been using this SPA112 adapter on ADSL2 for some time but since moving to a place with VDSL it's dropped registration several times a day. The web interface remains operational and its claims to be Registered but has no time remaining until next registration. 2Talk shows it to be not registered. A reboot does the trick for a while.

I've tried several things to improve matters including a factory reset and re-provisoning the SPA as well as manually entering the parameters. 2Talk unhelpfully suggested try another router/internet connection.

I upgraded to the latest firmware on both the SPA 1.4.1 and Fritzbox 6.80 and also removed the SNR tweak from my Fritz!Box 7490 (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?topicid=105744) as there were periodically very high error rates on the link. This latter had never been a problem on ADSL and had given a 20%+ speed boost.  The Fritz!Box now reports 0.09 CRC errors per minute.

I've been unable to get the ATA in the Fritz!Box to run reliably with two way sound.

Finally this thread gave me a possible workaround http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=43&topicid=136518 and since changing to UDP the SPA has been solid. I can't explain it but it does seem to be a real thing.

The type of connection isn't the issue as it makes no difference how an ATA is connected. Your issue is clearly one of network rather than being VDSL2 specific, and there are also very few reason to run a SIP connection over TCP rather than UDP (which is the default in the SIP world) unless you have a specific need for this.

If your registration is staying up it sounds like the issue was your firewall/router blocking inbound traffic.

I certainly agree about TCP for SIP, that's just how 2Talk provision it. I also see no way that the type of connection should affect the ATA.

The router however is the same one with the same rules as it was on ADSL and I'd have thought that it would not register at all if the firewall/router was blocking it rather than working for several hours then "hanging"?

I just found it interesting and thought I would share
