I've just switched to Spark UFB and I'm planning to port my existing home number to 2talk.

 

On the 2talk site, it has the following warning 
*Commonly broadband connections are associated with a phone number, so these will be disconnected if the associated number is ported away. ^We are only able to port active numbers, so please do not request cancellation until the number port is complete.

 

As anyone ported a number to 2talk and had issues with their internet being disconnected?

Yes, definitely. Including seeing someone loose their main business number for almost a week while they got it resolved (guess how much they liked that).

 

There are some tricks you can do, such as detaching your existing DSL broadband into Naked Broadband product in advance and then moving the voice service to Spark's "Customer Link" product and porting it from there.

 

If you're using UFB then it's different (if you provide more info on your broadband specifics you may get a more detailed answer).

@speed - I'm on 'Fibre100 Broadband & Landline - Unlimited GB' is that what you meant?

That sounds very much like a bundled product to me (but I'm not a Spark customer so I'm not sure).

 

I'd recommend you contact Spark and ask them if porting your voice number will have any affects. Eg triggering a contract-break fee (if you're on a contract).

 

If they (Spark) insist on you keeping a number on the bundle then you could ask them to put your existing number on Customer Link and assign a new number to the bundle. Then port the customer link number from 2talk's end once Spark have detached it from the bundle.

 

Bottom line, call Spark.

Recently just had a customer who had a site on fixed 4G, we ported the number away. And then Spark disconnected the 4G connection. Who would of thought...

 

So yes, definitely check with them and make sure the products are separated.

Happy to report that the porting to 2talk was a seamless process.

 

@speed I spoke to Spark about the customer link solution and they said that would increase the complexity. Basically as long as 2talk only request number porting then the broadband service was in no danger of being disconnected. 2talk do this by default.
