About to move house, looks like Slingshot might be forcing users to switch to GoTalk on new Naked plans.

That would be fine if I could keep my phone number (it seems this isn't possible currently), the answering machine that forwards to your email address was still there (it's not) and the system works well.

Any users who can tell of their experience with GoTalk?

There are a few details on their website in the FAQs:

GoTalk is a Mobile App that lets you make and receive landline calls on your mobile.

GoTalk connects to a landline number via WiFi or 3G/4G to our Voice over IP network. The App registers the landline number against the VoIP server, this allows you to make and receive calls.

All you need to do is download the app (iTunes or Play store), enter your GoTalk username and password, and start making calls.

Can I assign my existing Landline number to GoTalk?

We have plans to make this available in the future, however currently we will assign you a new landline number on signup.

Seems extremely stupid that they won't port numbers to their platform...

If it comes with the broadband plan, then why not just not bother. Port your number to 2talk. Download Bria, register your line to that, and away you go.

Yeah it says they're working on the phone number porting thing. I used a 2talk trial when I first tried out VOIP and naked broadband 7-8 years ago.

Honestly if I could get rid of my aging wireless handsets, linksys ATA and many cables, and use the mobile via wifi instead - great.

Just need to keep that old style homeline number for grandma etc. I imagine there's an app for that other than Slingshot's GoTalk?

As above, port your number to 2talk (will cost $6.90/month). Then register to that number with Bria.

Or just get the oldies that call you a mobile and set yours up as the best mate/whatever on it. Cheaper and more versitile than messing around with voip and apps etc which are often going to be sleeping etc and miss calls.

I have tried the Go Talk app. Call performance was great but the only problem I had with it was that with an incoming call the phone would not ring and there did not appear to be anything in the settings to fix this so I havent bothered with it since. The screen would light up and show the incoming calling number but no sound. +1 to what Chevrolux said port your number to 2talk and get a mobile voip app.

Slingshot has now told me they discontinued GoTalk as well.

But hey, they only charge $5 month extra for a home phone line (as opposed to something like $20 extra when the Naked ADSL first started out).

Maybe that would be easier than setting up a 2talk voip line? The only thing that would sway me is if 2talk had a forward-to-email voicemail service like iTalk. Otherwise i can lay a bunch of cables and an ATA box to rest.

They assure me that a phone line won't interfere with ADSL performance but i have no idea what the wiring is like at the new place so that seems an empty promise (master splitter etc?).

They have that. the only way I could timestamp when my italk disconnected from the credit card expiring was the end of the deluge of voicemail to emails that came thru from having a landline number with voicemail telling people to email me what they want and idiots and robots leaving messages.
