Given that Microsoft have gone full retard and driven the final nail into Skype's coffin with the recent update, I've decided it's easier to switch a few folks who want to call relatives in Europe over to VoIP, or at least something that isn't going to kark itself every time MS pushes out the next broken update. Having had a quick look around, there's a ton of providers who all seem to range from slightly dodgy through to full-on sleazy. Can anyone recommend a VoIP provider who will allow cheap-as-possible phonecalls to France or Germany, maybe a couple of hours a month total? All I'm after is cheap calls to local landlines in one of those two countries.

Ah, yeah, hadn't considered a NZ-based VoIP provider. One of them is on Flip, looks like their $15 international calling pack would do it, 100 hours for $15/month. That's assuming that their toll rate isn't on top of that, i.e. the toll rate is casual while the calling pack gives you 100 hours flat for $15.

The other is on Xtra, still looking at that one...

I'm using callromania for calls to Romania and around the world. It's a prepaid service.

You'll receive a romanian landline or mobile number allocated to your account, so others will be able to call you anytime. It can be used with almost any softphone and hardware, so you don't have to sit in front of the PC while talking/waiting to be called.

Calls between callromania numbers is free of charge, while calls to France are starting from 0.015 €/min
