2Talks website is a little lacking in explaining their acronyms/terms etc....

NZ Local mins - guess this is those in your "local" calling area

NZ 2T Country Mins - Rest of NZ and other countries designated ?

Currently I'm in Whangaparaoa, and although its considered as "Auckland", our call plans are not, so to call my folks in South Auckland, its considered a toll call. So that would fall under the NZ/2T minutes. Correct ?

Is there any way I can get a "local" Auckland number - then my calls to my folks and friends are local, but obviously any calls to the Rodney/HBC area will be "tolls". An 028 is not an option.

I am not interested in their internet offerings, just voice.

If someone can point out another VoIP provider worth looking at, feel free to link drop.

2talk consider Whangaparoa in the Auckland region. So even if you assign yourself an "Auckland" DDI, you will only get charged local calling rates. Pukekohe is also in this boat.

The downside is dialing the 7 digit local number (without 09), can be hit and miss. The simple fix is use outbound routing to insert the 09 for seven digit numbers ('[2-9]xxxxxx'). You still only get charged the local call.

Yay, they fixed this - it used to be that if the area code existed in the dial string it would be charged as "National"

Thanks for that :) Makes things look more promising for me then.

Nope, they don't class Whangaparaoa as Auckland, therefore falls under a national call.

Guess an Auckland number will be the way to go.

Really? Are you sure? Whats your number range?

I'm 99.9% sure I've had numbers in that area making local calls to Auckland numbers. Will go and check some.

2talk used to have an outbound caller ID feature where you could say "when calling this region, use this DDI". So if you had both two DDI's for different regions, you could set it to automatically use the correct DDI for the region you were calling. No idea if that feature has made it through to the new portal they've rolled out.

Confirmed via someone with access to the internal 2Talk system. (ie: A friend who works there.... forgot about them :D )

I can switch to an Auckland number if needed, so not a biggie as such.

Wow, my bad!

Had to double check myself, yea can see calls getting charged as national, rather than local. The one I checked had a locality of 'Hibiscus Coast'.

Admittedly, it's been a good six months since I sold/worked on 2talk services, but was certain Auckland as a whole got treated as one.

Edit: Ask your mate if they still have the automatic outbound CLI changing fetaure. It used to be a sub-menu under the 'Line Manager' area, but the whole UI has changed so they may have removed the feature.
