I'm looking to remove my Yealink desk phone to make some space and switch to a softphone (using 2talk) on my iPhone and windows desktop. What apps would you recommend? Acrobits Groundwire looks like a good option for the iPhone and avoids an ongoing subscription which services like Bria have. Any recommendations?

I'm using MicroSIP for my desktop, been working well and a mate who works for 2Talk recommends it.

Grandstream Wave Lite and Linphone are ok for incoming calls but I wouldn't bother with them (or other free apps) if your'e after reliability for incoming calls.

Acrobits Groundwire is excellent - the only smart phone app with push notifications and no subscription that I've found.

Zoiper for Windows works well too. No subscription is required (unlike their iphone/android app)

I was going to recommend 2talk's iOS or Android app, but I see that the clickable Apple and Driod logos on their website's front page now both link to 'app not available' messages!

Nice housekeeping there (not), but I guess it's fairly in-line with the rest of their offerings.

The app is no longer offered. Wasn't very good anyway.

https://help.2talk.co.nz/hc/en-gb/articles/4423095205133-2talk-Connect-Softphone

The discontinued 2talk Connect Android app was built on Linphone.

I'm now experimenting with the Android softphones suggested by 2talk.

Linphone. While Linphone does in fact support push notifications (refer Linphone Android notification settings), the 2talk platform does not seem to provide the required push notifications. Instead, Linphone can be set run in background mode at some extra cost of battery life. Apart from these issues Linphone works well.

Counterpath Bria Solo. It uses a SIP account at Counterpath as a push notification intermediary. I have not yet reached any conclusions.

Zoiper. Zoiper can be set run in background mode at some extra cost of battery life. In addition it has a subscription option ($20.99 per year - is that NZD or USD?) for an intermediary push service which I've not tried. Otherwise it seems to work well.

I’ve just been reviewing my VoIP devices and softphones.

Acrobits Softphone. I’ve purchased lifetime subscriptions for Android and iOS, at about NZ$14 each. Acrobits Softphone supports push notifications for both Android and iOS. To avoid one-way audio when using push notifications to wake up the softphone I needed to switch my 2talk numbers from 2Talk Plus platform to 2talk Lyra, refer https://support.2talk.co.nz/what-is-lyra. If anybody is interested I can provide my Acrobits Softphone settings.

Cisco SPA2102 ATA. With Lyra the SPA2102 STUN setting must be disabled. All other 2talk Plus settings other than the proxy remain the same.

Telephone.app for Mac. The basic version is free. It works very well with 2talk Lyra. It is very simple to set up. Refer https://apps.apple.com/us/app/telephone/id406825478?mt=12
