I am currently trying to get our wireless landline up and running on Smart Modem 2. We are using a Uniden Dect phone plugged into the phone port on the modem. When logged into the modem it appears that the phone is not recognised as it comes up with "No phone number" under the phone setting. I can't find any area in the settings to configure the landline phone. Are there certain brands of phones that don't work with this modem? There is an "engaged" type dial tone on the phone...

It should be pretty much plug and play, and any modern landline phone should work. I had a nightmare setting mine up though - all comes down to spark setting up the backend correctly. Worth chasing up with their tech support.

Do you have another phone you can try?

This sounds like the modem is not provisioned with a phone service.

Are you coming from another provider or going from a landline? From memory if you’re going from a landline there is a number to call in order to stage the service order getting you connected via wireless.

@huckster if you read above the OP states the router interface shows no phone line which means not provisioned.

The phone number is ported through Hero. They thought there should be settings in the modem config to set up the number etc but couldnt find anything...

The plot thickens. Configuration isn't automatic and if you're with hero then you'll need to configure this yourself.

IMHO, you should just port and use the provider you're with instead.

Haha, there is no plot! I am just trying to find out HOW to configure the phone settings on the SM2. Trying to get hold of a Spark technician is impossible (The lack of service is the exact reason we have shifted away from them after 40 odd years..) and the HERO advisors are stumped, hence the question in this forum. It looks like the easiest option is to go to an ATA adaptor or a VOIP phone if we can't get this sorted.

I think the key is you are using a Spark modem with Spark firmware that will be configured to use Spark's voice service rather than having end user facing configurability. Not sure how this is a lack of service on Spark's part. You need to get hardware that is supported by your voice provider, in this case, Hero.

Fair enough RunningMan, I think we will just go with a VOIP phone. Thanks everyone for your help.
