These are my experiences with setting up Gigaset with 2talk.

The Gigaset A580 IP processor is way too slow to cope with several VOIP providers.

In addition fo "Fixed line" and Gigaset I had configured.

- Asterisk

- Skype SIP

- 2Talk

The A580 gives misleading messages "Registration failed"

Asterisk will register withing a few seconds, Skype will register withing a minute.

However with 2Talk it can take half an hour or more.

The configuration for 2Talk is:

Domain=2talk.co.nz

Proxy=2talk.co.nz

Registrar=2talk.co.nz

All other settings are default.

Sometimes 2talk regresses to "Registration failed".

Sometimes you get a Busy message regardless of which number you try to ring.

These issues do not happen with Skype.

I have not been able to track down what exactly is causing these issues between A580 and 2talk.

The only way to figure this out is to use a tool like Wireshark and trace all network traffic.

What settings are you using? I've never encounterd any such issues with Gigaset phones even with multiple providers. I'm certainly not aware of others using 2talk with these phones having any such issues.

There have been a lot of people commenting on issues lately with 2talk such as failed inbound calls and the like. I don't use 2talk however so can't comment on their service.

I have attached an image of my Gigaset settings.
The Gigaset A580 most of the time shows a Registration failed message, even for Asterisk server on the same LAN.
This tells me that the processor is too slow or the web interface is not reliable.
After a while I see the Registered message.

There is no image attached to your post.

What firmware version are you using?

Firmware version: 022230000000 / 047.00
EEPROM version: 183

I have to add that my Netcomm V24W connect just perfect to 2Talk via the same modem.
The V24W connectswireless to a Edima router.
While the S580IP connect to a D-Link swtich and then to the same modem.

Again, this tells me that there is something not right in the connection between A580Ip and 2Talk.
However Skype does not have any problems, so it must be the combination of Gigaset and 2Talk.

As some of you are aware on this forum, I had problems setting up Faktortel and 2talk on my Gigaset A580 IP back in May/June. It has worked flawlessly for me over the last six weeks, with calls connecting almost instantaneously. The problem may have been resolved by me connecting the Gigaset base station to my wireless router rather than directly to the gateway/router. So it sits on a "home network within a home network". Just for fun, I put a 3rd phone company onto the Gigaset last night - PennyTel - and it seems to work as well.

John: I sent you a screen shot of my 2talk configuration a few days ago, so apparently it hasn't worked for you. Try this: Go to Settings > Telephony > Advanced Settings on the Gigaset web configuration page, and then select the option to use random ports. I've set the SIP port range to 5050-5076 and the RTP port range from 5004-5020.

Don't forget to turn off the base station and turn it back on again. Maybe you could also switch you gateway/router off and on as well. It can't hurt.

I have to say, I was ready to send the phone back to the retailer at one point. It took two months to figure out how to get it working.

David.

What do you have as the registration refresh time? It's hard to see on the image since it's small.

The issue isn't one with these phones and 2talk, I know plenty of people using Gigaset phones with no issues, some with 6 lines. If you are also having issues with Asterisk as well it suggests a network issue somewhere and I'd probably start by doing a factory reset.

2Talk is working now for me as well, although I do not use STUN sever.
It's just that I want to inform people that they need to have a lot of patience to get the Gigaset working with 2Talk.
After I got your settings I did a factory reset of the base station and entered all settings.
2talk registered after a while, but I got a Busy message all the time.
The next day I tried again and suddenly it was working.
I have no idea where the issues with 2Talk come from as the other providers work like a charm.
Maybe there is a timing issue in which the handshaking is not going well because the A580 is too slow.

I'm not really sure what you mean by such a thing. The phone itself certainly isn't slow or under powered.

Your issue is almost certainly network related. Thinking about it now I'd pick a possible scenario is that you don't have port 5060 open on your router and the NAT translation is being confused up by multiple connections to different VoIP providers on the same port. A solution to this is to change ports used by your VoIP provider with most supporting in the 5060 - 5065 region or 8060.

2talk do tend to have regular issues, I certainly don't use them or recommend them as a VoIP provider but many people chose to do so because of their pricing.

I forward only port 5060 to Gigaset, so this may be the issue.
I will look which ports the different providers support and change them accordingly.
Furthermore, I want to route all calls via Asterisk, but need to read up on it as the settings provided by 2Talk were not working on my Asterisk box.

Which VOIP provider do you recommend ?

Not in my experience, care to back that statement up?

Ongoing issues with incoming calls going direct to voicemail - I even had half a dozen people on twitter last week say they're all randomly encountering the same issue and I've dealt with 3 people myself who are encountering it. They've had a major loss upstream connectivity in the past two weeks and a few weeks before that had major upstream packet loss if you were connecting through other ISP's including Orcon.

I'll give you the upstream connectivity loss. I didn't experience the packet loss issue and haven't experienced the incoming call issue - not saying that they didn't happen, just that we didn't see it.

We've been using 2Talk for I guess three years or so and can recall three issues. I just think it's possibly a little harsh to say they have tend to have regular issues.

Replaced ADSL modem today.
Old modem: D-Link DSL-502T bought from DSE
New modem: Dynalink RTA1320E  shipped by Slingshot with a 1.5 year contract.

To my big surprise the Gigaset now registers VOIP providers almost instantly.
It usually takes only a few seconds.
This tells me that all the time the D-Link modem was the culprit.
I read something about disabling VOIP ALG on the modem on the web site of Slingshot but could not find this settings.

Anyway, if you experience issues with the Gigaset A580IP the problem is on your network.
In my case replacing the modem did the trick.

Since replacing ADSL modem by Dynalink the modem freezes every 2 days.
Not even a ping to the modem is working.
When I connect a netbook directly to the modem no connection either.
After rebooting modem it is working again.

Can someone recommend a modem that is stable with Gigaset A580IP ?
