I am currently using a line of site internet provider ( Thin Air )with a wireless modem ( netgear ) using Apple Mac
but the home phone drops out, and the service back up if really bad.

I live in Palmerston North and need a reliable provider for Internet, home phone with access to cheap calls,
ie international ( cheap ) national ( cheap or free ) local ( free ) we currently pay about $120.00 per month
all up, so do not want a higher cost services.

Any GOOD suggestions / help appreciated.

Inspire (www.inspire.net.nz) will be lauching a VOIP service over their wireless network in a few weeks/months. You could give them a call to see what timeframe they are looking at - it was in their newsletter at the end of August so it is public knowledge.

Hi There,

I use Snap naked ADSL.  Very good pricing ($70 pm with 10gb) and their service is excellent.  You could add a 2talk plan for $15 dollars per month and you'd have great broadband and home phone for $85 per month!  Pretty good deal I say!
Snap is at www.snap.net.nz
2talk is at www.2talk.co.nz

despite bad comments on slingshot in these forums Ive no issues with them. Ive got naked dsl ($80) which includes voip , 500 minutes to local, NZ and 40 countries, 25Gb per month. NZ mobile costs of 26 cents per minute is the only extra I pay. This plan no longer  available but I think you can get naked dsl at $80 then $10 more for voip. I think you can get 1500 minutes for $10 more again . Dont believe you can get any cheaper. Except perhaps Vodafone for $55 (or $45 if in their red zone)  then just need a voip provider which should cost $10 - $15 per month. Of course youll need to buy an ATA for about $100, but the savings in call costs should soon pay for that

2talk have now got plans (since the GST change) now starting at $11.50 GST inclusive so it will be slightly cheaper again for the OP @ $81.45 a month if he used the Snap 10GB naked dsl option. The old $15, $30 and $40 plans have been removed and replaced with $10 $20 and $30 +GST. Depending on how may calls the OP makes outside his calling area and how long he is on those calls for even the next plan which is $23 GST inclusive for 1000 minutes of national and 60+ countries would still work out cheaper than the $120 odd hes paying now. Just properly read OPs thread and if the country/countries he calls come under those 60+ countries then they would come under the either 250 or 1000 minutes of the first 2 plans. If not 2talk does have cheap rates to most other countries too.
