Hi,

I created a new account for a friend yesterday at 2talk and I chose the free plan and after that I added a local phone which was free of charge. I noticed the second one was $7.

Is this a new feature? I assume there are no free minutes included which is fine by me.
I have an old account (before the plan change) and I still pay $7 for my only landline.

Anybody knows more about this? (no, I haven't asked 2talk support yet as this might be slightly faster) :)

Cheers.

Are you sure it's free?  On the 2talk Go Free plan you're only meant to get an 028 number, not a local number (unless you pay the $7 per month as you yourself are doing).

So if you're mate's getting it for free then that's a bonus for him!  I think he may be charged for it though at his next monthly billing cycle date - you'd have to wait and see to find that out.

Cheers

Yes, it was free.
Usually when you add a "regional number" you have to pay immediately for the number to be allocated.
When I clicked add the payment was $0.00. I clicked again and it was $7.

Strange.

This has always been the case. It is a good way to have a local line without any bundled minutes if you want. It is not advertised but works as you have described.

The $7 covers a local line so local calls are free in the region you choose.

Cheers,

Matt.

So how can I switch my regional phone from the $7 for 2000 minutes to $0 for 0 minutes? I don't make any local calls so I wouldn't mind.

I am already on the Go Free plan with a $7 regional phone.

Thanks.

you have to remove the regional line. 2talk make money off the free plan by making you have an 028 number which is non-geographic and so generally costs the same to call as a mobile number.

just make sure you only have an 028 number on your account.

Hello again,

I tried to do it again to see if it was a bug or if it's "as expected" (it might still be a bug, this is what I'm trying to find out).

So, I created a free account and I was allocated an 028 number. I then logged on and added a regional phone.
This is a screenshot showing $0.00 monthly payment:

I tried adding another one and the expected payment showed ($6.90 / month).

So, what are your thoughts?

Sorry guys this is a web interface bug which is now fixed.  Any lines added on the free plan will be charged at $6+GST/month going forward.  We will be communicating with affected customers shortly asking if they wish to keep the line or pay the monthly charges going forward.

Thanks,
Ray @ 2talk

Excellent technical support :)
Ray, can you please PM your email address so I can tell you the account I created earlier to test so you can remove it?
Thanks.
