I just bought an SPA3102 and it has one VOIP line and one PSTN line I did not realise what that meant or would have never bought it as I could have got the SPA2102 which is a snap to set up (well it is for me)

Anyway I see a lot help on the internet regarding using the PSTN line as a normal VOIP line but I cant even get a dial tone even though I am registering with my VOIP provider (2talk)

any body out there who understands this sort of thing I would really appreciate the help

OR does any one want to trade for a SPA2102 or comparable devise

Cheers

What port did you plug into the Telecom jackpoint? There are 2 POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) ports on that ATA.

# FXS port to connect an analog phone
# FXO port to connect to a Telco or PSTN

You should be able to go to the setup page on the ATA if you need to configure each port differently. You probably want to set the FXO line as a backup that kicks in when the VoIP goes down, but there might be some other options for it.

Time to find a new industry!

OK

I have a SPA2102 it has 2 VOIP lines I dont have a telecom or telstra line in my house.

I did not realise that the SPA3102 was so different - It has one line for the VOIP that works fine it is "line1" it looks nearly the same as the line 1 in the spa2102 -

the other line in the SPA3102 is called "PSTN line" it has the same set-up as the "line 1" in the top half of the configuration page all the way down to the audio configuration but then it has "dial plans " and "VoIP-To-PSTN Gateway Setup" Is this a dail plan ()
I tried a dozen ways of setting up but never get a dail tone - On the info page it always says I am "registered" so the top half of the page is set up properly.

If it is possible to have 2 different phones working on this just like the 2102 device at the same time then I will keep trying but I could be wasting my time

As far as I know FXO is only for fallover, i.e. a land line plugs into it in case your VoIP link is broken. I'm not aware that an analogue phone can be plugged into the FXO socket. But I might be wrong.

You can never have enough Volvos!

The 3102 can't have a phone put into the FXO port - it's only for connecting to a PSTN line. Google the difference between FXS and FXO if you want a technical understanding of the difference between both ports.

I am sure you are right but what is the Voip settings for if you are just going to plug it into a regular phone line?

I don't fully understand your question - there are no settings required for a typical setup.

By default if you plug the SPA3102 into a phoneline it'll use PSTN passthru to send incoming calls to the analogue phone on port1. If you want to also use that line for outgoing calls you can then configure the dialplan to use something like ** as a predigit to give you a dialtone on the PSTN line, or create a dialplan that will route certain number ranges via the PSTN/VoIP if you want to deploy a simple LCR.

LCR = Least Cost Routing

I have no idea what your phone setup is but even if you have Naked xDSL you still have a tone on the line, albiet a disconnected one, because the line is still physically connected at to the NEAX switch at the exchange.
