Hi

I have been reading but have not found the answer!

I have a Xnet broadband and VoIP connection using a PAP2T Linksys adaptor for analogue phones. I am interested in the capabilities of Android.

Is it possible to:

1. Use an Android phone to use the Xnet VoIP.

2. If so, can I leave the PAP2T connected for analogue phones and still use an Android phone?

Just wondering?

Thanks
John

There are numerous Android SIP clients.

You can't use two simultaneous devices using the same SIP registration. Outbound calls will work on both, but inbound will only go to the last device that registered.

2Talk have a 'one number' feature that causes the call to ring on more than one sip account. Don't know anything about Xnet yet, but I'm sure they'll have some sort of thing that does the same thing.

I have 3 sip accounts, 2 on the ATA (I've got the same one you have) and one on my laptop and they all just ring at the same time, first person to answer gets the call.

As far as I know xnet lock their accounts so they can only be used with certain equipment they are most unlikely to give you your log in details and settings for your accounts. This is unless they have changed there terms of use.

WxC launched an OpenVFX product ~6 months ago allowing you to use any device you want.

Second incoming call doesn't seem to work well though... I'm getting people telling me that my line is just ringing out, so don't know what I haven't set up correctly.

I'm going to be so happy once I fully understand this stuff, but at present I just don't :(

I'm using sipdroid on my Samsung Galaxy S with my VFX number.
Sadly, sipdroid is less than perfect but its the only one I have found that supports Auth ID on Android.

Sip is built into the next Android upgrade (Gingerbread) but I won't be holding my breath for Auth ID to be included.

CSipSimple looks great and is very userfriendly, but sadly I couldn't get it configured (even with the expert mode that looked like it had Auth ID and password field.

From a security point of view AuthID is becoming vastly more relevent due to the massive issues now with hacking attempts against VoIP platforms. It is also part of the SIP standard so those vendors who choose not to support it are simply chosing to ignore potential customers.

That is good to know it is part of the standard as that gives me some hope it will be included in the Gingerbread kernel.

I certainly don't blame xnet for implementing it. Its clearly the software devs (well at least the android ones) who have dropped the ball.

I got csipsimple working but had to download a development build from the development website.

Issues remained however with no audio though the earpiece. Best sip client was the Nokia E71. I have given up trying to run sip on my android...

It seems with all the different hardware configurations AKA "fragmentation" no one piece of software seems up to the job.

Cheers, Matt.

And that's why WorldxChange locks their settings in the boxes: people who don't know what they are doing end up opening their boxes (Asterisk, PAP and others) to all sort of security problems, including scammers who find open boxes and use those as gateways to offer cheap calls to others, via your account.

It's ok to hack things, but one must be aware of the consequences if configurations are not secure, and shouldn't blame the providers.

That was also a problem with csipsimple and the galaxy s on one of the older release builds.

I might have to look at those dev builds as I often get told by the person on the other end that there is an echo.
