Hi all and happy NY!
I'm looking at buying the c470ip voip phone and wonder if anyone of you has gone through the setup succesfully? Also my router/modem is an st585
Any chance of sharing the setup?

I bought a 685ip from hip-ip.com. They shipped from the UK in 4 days. I can't recall the coupon code for removing the VAT but google should know the answer.

Setup for 2talk was very straightforward. I am very impressed with the 685ip. It is miles more reliable than my two linksys ATA's.

I am using a wrp400 router from cisco as I have a pppoe connection which is wireless (not adsl)

Has anyone of you bought/installed and used a Fritz!Box Fon modem router? I might get something like that if I upgrade the voip system? I'm very interested to hear?

I'm a very happy user of a 7170. I bought it in a shop in Munich 2+ years ago for ca. EUR 125. I'm using it on TCL cable, so I can't say anything about the DSL modem part. My model would anyway require a firmware change to get rid of the stupid german Annex B, but with a model sourced from the UK you would not have that problem.

I'm using 2talk as my local VoIP provider, and you can configure up to ten different SIP accounts and set up rules which one to use for outgoing calls. The setup does not appear as elaborate compared to the screenshots I've seen from Linksys devices, but I've not felt that anything is really missing. I mean I'm not aware that I could change the dialtone frequency or line impedance, but I don't have a need for this as everything "just works".

There are still new firmware updates coming out for the 7170 from AVM which add new features. But I'd imagine that they now focus more on the later released models (like 7270 and 7390). In addition to this there are free 3rd party add-ons available (e.g. Freetz). Initially the fact that these devices are pretty open was a major point for my purchase. In the end I had hardly any need to really add additional features to it, but I still consider it fairly important for me to be able to telnet into it and "play around" (e.g. run the VoIP server in verbose mode to get a bit of an idea of what might be going on).

Are there any particular questions you'd like to know?

I'm aware that I'm risking to get a bit OT as this tread was originally labeled "Gigaset" and not "FRITZ!Box" but I hope that is OK as I try to respond to a follow-up question of the OP (which might be able to change the thread title).

Just by chance I stumbled over the fact that some FRITZ!Box models are about to arrive in the "West Island": http://fritzbox.com.au

This web page contains a fair amount of screenshots from the configuration and information interface (under the respective "Products" tab is an "Interface" tab). This might give people an idea of what is available and how it could be configured. Their forum is pretty much empty so far and I doubt that it will ever come close to the amount of participation as seen over in Europe, but at least they are trying to provide a bit of local support.

Update
I have bought and installed a Gigaset s685ip. Works perfectly!
So the only upgrade I like to do at some stage is replacing my old st585 with an all-in-one Fritzbox.
