Hello

I am new to the forums here and hope someone can help me. Right now i have a cable modem through comcast. It is an arris tm722. It has on the back on Ethernet port in which i have my computer hooked into, and it also has 2 phone jacks on it. I am only using one of the phone jacks. Thats all i need.

What i would like to do is set up my computer to answer and make calls from, and i cant figure this out. I tried a bunch of software, but none seem to work. There is no modem in my computer, just Ethernet. So i was wondering if there is a software solution to go through the Ethernet and somehow get the call off the phone jack side of them modem?

I have no idea, im stumped. I would like the software to be able to log calls, mute, hold, record, etc...

Hi,

Are you trying to route your voice line (ie. Your telecom line) or a voip line? They are two completely different technologies.

A voip line only needs an Internet connection and a softphone (voip software). The telecom line would require an analogue modem.

If you want to have a play around with voip I suggest you go to http://www.2talk.co.nz and sign up for a free line. You can download 2talks free softphone software. Just be aware that calls from other lines to the 028 number will be charged as a mobile call.

Sorry, just realised you are not in New Zealand. Scratch the 2talk idea. Look for a voip provider in your area.

I am getting voip service through comcast/minternet provider. Coax goes into the cable modem and there are 2 phone jacks on the back of the modem

You can not get the voice on the PC from the router. To get it on your PC you need phone software to run on your PC (if your provider allows that) and the software connects to your provider, not the router. In that case the router phone ports will not be used any more so it will be a PC phone only.

What you can do is connect a traditional voice modem to the router voice port, but it can be messy and not sure of your skills.

You can never have enough Volvos!
