I've had a VOIP phone with my ISP for about a year and up until just before Christmas it was going fine. Then it started cutting out on phone calls. People could hear me, but I couldn't hear them. The ISP has made numerous changes at their end which work for a few days then I'm back to square one. Yesterday was the worst and now I have to think about dropping the phone for a mobile.
Before I do, does anyone have any ideas? I've had one visit from the ISP who just seemed to take the battery out of the phone and put it back in again. Not a lot of help.
Oh and I'm not a geek, so make it easy to understand please?
It's either going to be your connection, your equipment or the service.
If the voice is breaking up then it points to your connection/bandwidth or the service. If the voice just cuts out completely then it's possible that it's your equipment. Really there are a lot of variables so it's hard to just guess.
To test whether it's the service you could sign up with a different service and see if that works. Perhaps 2Talk as they have a free account that you could use for testing.
To test the equipment you will need a different router and/or phone so it's easier to start with the service. You could take your phone to another Internet connection too which may help to narrow things down.
