You'd probably want to find out what the device is first.

It does look like a good deal with the half price ATA and first month free. After clicking on a link on the 800voip webpage it did take me to 2talks homepage so it looks like you are right about it being 2talk. One thing that intrigues me is calls to NZ mobiles for as little as 7c when 2talk themselves have calls to NZ mobiles for 19c plus GST

Yes you're basically just signing up to 2Talk by using a referral link so the company gets a commission.

At no place does it mention what actual model the device is though so it may not be half price at all.

It does say it on the 800voip website. Its got Grabone deal NZ$99.00 with a line through it and then NZ$49.00 next to it

It's an SPA1001, these were actually discontinuted a long time ago. Pricewise there is nothing great about it, you can pick SPA1001's up on eBay ex Hong Kong for around US$25 incl shipping. They're a dirt cheap adapter if you only want a single line.

Ah indeed! Was looking on my mobile device and though I saw and FXS + FXO port, but on second looks I got that wrong.
