I'm a newbie with Asterisk - does anybody know where I can get a voip to gsm gateway locally?
I want to route our office calls to our sales reps mobiles using the vodafone talk zone zero plan for free :)

I was speaking a friend about this a few weeks ago. Essentially there are two ways to do this

*Standard GSM to analogue trunking unit which you will probably pay around $400 for one doing a single line.

*Bluevoice which is a SIP <-> GSM gateway avoiding the analogue conversion. There is apparently no NZ agent but the following guys are the Australian agent and I believe they were around the $2000 mark for a 4 trunk unit  http://www.talktous.net.au/VoiceBlue.html

This would be by far the best way to go and you would want more than 1 line anyway. Even for $2k if you make a lot of calls you'd have a pretty good ROI! I have never played with one or know anybody who has but I have read a few things about them and they are a seriously cool unit which I would love to have a play with! :-)

Hey, I have an Analog GSM gateway (Erricson) I am looking to sell. Also I can help you set it up with your Asterisk system if you're in the Auckland area.
Let me know. :-)

Yeah you will.
I also have a spare Digium TDM400P card with 2 FXS modules and 1 FXO module if you want.
Again, I can configure Asterisk for this card if you need.

Slightly OT, but if you're not fixed on the requirement for GSM, we also sell the Hantel HTT-800 unit which is Analog to CDMA.

I have chatted to hitech supplies and they say that I can get a VOIP Gateway subsidised from the GSM carrier and on a 36 contract. I would only have to pay about $1,600 for a 2 port Voice Blue Light! The other soloution of the analouge digim card $400 + 2 x analoug gateways would cost around the same. So straight from SIP to GSM is the way to go at this price!!

Where ever you purchase the GSM gateway from a Vodafone business partner should be able to give you a hardware rebate/credit when you purchase the SIM cards for the device from them.

The 2N units are nice units.

I think the requirement is for free calls using Talk Zero.... to go CDMA is a whole other business decision...

With the Hantel you would need to have an analouge port on asterisk, unlike the 2n voip gateway it pure SIP to GSM.

Ahh, didn't spot that bit.

Also yes, I did mention it was analog, although yes a VOIP environment SIP solution would be tidier.
