Hi all
Our home has two local phone numbers, one for my business which is a landline(T-Com) and the other a voip 2talk for the home.I would like to add another line or local number over IP. Our voip setup is a is a gigaset 685 ip.
Would someone have the patience to explain how to go about to get another line or voip number and set it up with the 685 ip.
What is my best option?

Thanks

Don't know what that phone does, but if you're just wanting local call numbers so you can give people the right number and don't care to much about knowing where the call came via, then set up a new number in your 2Talk account and just make it ring on your other 2Talk number.

So:

Telecom 04 350 2334 - Rings where it rings...
2Talk 04 990 3349 - rings where it currently rings on your S685 IP
2Talk 04 991 0045 - new number --> 04 990 3349

Does this help?

http://gigaset.com/hq/en/product/GIGASETS685IP.html

I assume that the unit will terminate two different SIP registrations, but does anyone know if it will tell the user which service the call is coming in on?

Ie, per my example above, will the phone say Line 1 - Telecom Line, Line 2 - 2Talk Private, Line 3 - 2Talk Business as well as showing the caller id at the same time?

I assume the user wants to answer the phone differently based on incoming line as well as Caller ID so s/he can have a better idea of what sort of call they're getting?

Thanks,You nailed it!
At the moment it only says fixed line or ip phone depending which line gets the call and so I'm not sure how that would work in the future with haveing a second ip (local)number
I do need to know for which business I get the incoming call .

If you want this ability you're going to need to move to a multiline phone such as a Cisco, Polycom, Yealink etc or migate to a PBX which can insert the trunk name into the CID.

Set up an 028 number in your 2Talk account and then set that up as the second SIP session on your handset.  It won't cost you anything to do this and have a play.  Remember to call the 028 number from a 2talk line so that it doesn't cost you (if you call it from that Telecom line then it will cost mobile rates I suspect).

Once you've proven out what the phone features are, then you can set up the local call number.  You can also just set up the local call number anyway, it only costs you part month of $7 for the number and then you can cancel it if what you want to happen doesn't work.

Don
Sure enough it works spot on with my 028 number. It worked with trying a couple of times so the cost is negligible.
For getting a local number on 2talk, would I have to go through T-com or can that be done over 2talk?
The setup on the Gigaset is quite good as well.
Have a good weekend!

Just select a local number in 2talk just like you got the 028 number .. and you should be away.. or if you dont like the none local sounding local number as some locals dont realise its local you could look at this thread to see how to get a telecom sounding local number.. there are otherways as well .. get a telecom number on a second line then port it across or find someone who is leaving area and port their number to you .. http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=43&topicid=95600

Cheaper still, just add duel number faxibilty to you current telecom line, then port it.

I think thats the way I would like to go and I hope I can get a number close to the existing landline phone number as well.
Thanks to all of you for the prompt replies.

Don't forget porting costs $28 and will take 7 days.

As an interim measure you can divert your new telecom number to a local voip number and set up the interim voip number on ata and you are away working and no wait till port happens. So that the divert dosnt charge for call costs your interim voip number needs to be a local rather than 028 number.

You can't divert duel / faxibilty number. You would need customer link number instead - more $$.

I assume I can ask for a separate faxline which (hopefuly) has a close  number to the existing line(just for the looks) and then port it? By the way, how long does this line have to be established before it can be ported? Obviously it does involve extra costs a T-com.
Don-I would not worry about the time it takes as I can for the time being use the 028 number and it works great with the Gigaset setup.

Hi all
so far all successful with a new number at telecom(with one digit different at the end) and with a redirect to the existing landline. Tested and works ok.
That should be the base for porting?
Just wonder if Xnet's vfx have changed the system so it is possible to send and receive faxes by email now? If that would be the case it may be time to change to vfx?

Alas still only fax to email, no email to fax option. I set my customers up with a 2talk 028 number for sending faxes, top up with $20 and it lasts a long time.
