My computer did a usual Windows update yesterday and afterwards the screen resolution switched to 1600x1200. The issue is that there is no option to go back up to 1920x1080 in adjust resolution and the lower resolution is really irritating when working in spreadsheets which I do most of the day for my job.

Does anyone know what may have caused this??

Presumably 1920x1080 is the native res of your monitor? Was there a display driver included in the update(s) that were installed?

Yup, 1920x1080 is the native resolution.

I'm not too sure, how would I check what was in the update?

I just had a look under Control Panel->Programs->Programs and Features->Installed Updates

I'm assuming these are the ones installed

Ok. Looked up all of those KBs on the MS support website and none of them are driver updates..

Okay, well find what video card you have (Windows Key + R then type 'dxdiag' then click yes/ok if asking for signatures and then click 'display' tab).

Then go to the video card manufacturers website and download the latest drivers for that model.

Ok, so that now allows me to go to 1920x1440, but that ends up being too big for the screen and I can't see the bottom. Any ideas?

It doesn't let me reduce the height without also reducing the length. ie. 1920x1440 is the only option using 1920

Ok, it's fixed now somehow. I installed the ATI Radeon HD 5000 series driver from their website. Then uninstalled it all and it's back to the original 1920x1080.

Out of interest, what monitor is it? Seems like it's not detecting properly.
