Hi all
I've posted this around a few places with very few answers coming in so far, so hopefully it gets noticed by a guru here! Basically I can't add more than 50 folders to the Windows 7 Video Library in Windows Explorer, or to the Manage Libraries screen in Media Center. Details below:
In Vista I had no problem with adding each folder I wanted to view in my Media Center Videos folder by going into the Windows Media Player library add/remove panel. I have about 110 folders in the share Videos, so I would add each folder as it's own watched folder in WMP. This way when I went into Videos on Media Center I would see all video folders straight away, as opposed to seeing the root folder and then having to go into that (another level down) to see all the other folders.
In Windows 7 I have tried all sorts of ways to get this to work the same way but I can't. I try to do this several ways:
1. In Media Center, Videos, I go to Manage Libraries and add shared folders from another computer. I select all the folders I want and then press okay. The dialogue comes up telling me media is adding and that I can press Ok to carry on doing things. I've tried all variations of leaving this running, going to do something else, or just watching TV while media adds in the background. Media Center freezes up at 50 shares added. I then need to end eshell from the task manager and start MC again. When I go to Videos I can see the first 50 shares are in there, but no more. If I then go to add more manually it says they're adding with the same dialogues as before, but nothing shows up in Videos.
2. In Windows Explorer I go to Videos library. I try to add the folders from there and the same thing happens. 50 add, the rest do not. My connection to WHS then seems to freeze and I have to reboot.
I've spoken to many people who have the same config as me and have no problem seeing more than 50 folders in Videos and have no problem adding them to their libraries.
I've got no problem adding more than 50 folders to the Music library either.
I'm really confused. The only "fix" i can implement at the moment is to split the folders into less parent folders, eg a folder for A-M and a folder for N-Z. All folders beginning with A-M go into that parent folder. Interestingly there are more than 50 folders in there, 65 to be precise. It seems that the problem only occurs when I add more than 50 folders to the library itself. Subfolders don't seem to count.
I'd appreciate any help or advice anyone has, this is getting very frustrating.
Thanks all for reading
G.
EDIT: I forgot to say I've also tried adding Shortcuts to the folders into the local drive on the HTPC and then adding these to the library. This has the same result as if I was just adding the network folders directly.
EDIT2: I've also tried to add these folders using the Windows Media Player 12 library management screen. Same same.
