STI:

Anyone notice a delay when changing tracks manually? Sometimes it takes up to 30 seconds to change from one track to other. I experienced same problem with both beta versions before this.

Must be an issue with your PC. Changing tracks is instant for me

My music files are stored in the slave hard drive. Also when WMP is running on the background Task Manager shows 100% CPU usage. Whenever I try to change the track WMP shows "Opening media..." followed by a 20 second delay.

Well, it shouldn't take up 100% CPU... that does sound like there's an issue with your system. Does it happen if you access music files on your main drive as well?

Sounds like you either:

a)  Have an addressing conflict between your Master and Slave hard drives, or
b)  A faulty IDE cable, or
c)  A Hard Disk Controller fault, or
d)  A Hard Drive which is failing (lots of retries needed to read the data)

Any way you look at it, you could have a serious problem on your hands.

Do other programs exhibit similar symptoms when opening large files (e.g. high-resolution photographs or video clips)?

Actually I tried using iTunes and it works without any issues. Also I tried playing some media files from Master hard drive and experience same unresponsive behavior from WMP. Is there any way to pinpoint the problem? By the way I started using iTunes because of this problem, so it is not causing any software conflict to my knowledge. But I prefer to use WMP as I can synchronize with my Pocket PC and I like the GUI more than iTunes.

I would try disconnecting the ribbon cable from your slave drive (turn power off first of course).

Then try playing music files from your Master drive.  That will prove whether it is a conflict between disks.

If you have a failing hard disk, or faulty hard disk cable or controller, it will most probably be taking a long time to boot up as well.  Compare the boot up speed with another PC of similar speed if you can.

If none of those turns out to be the problem, I would uninstall WMP and then reinstall it again.  Hopefully that should solve the problem, otherwise I would look for a driver conflict or other Device Manager problem within Windows.

Failing all of that, you will have to save all your data, reformat the drive and reinstall Windows.

One of those suggestions is bound to work but for your sake I hope it is something simple.  Reinstalling Windows and then all your programs is going to take a lot of time and you may be best just to stick with iTunes if you are happy with your PCs performance in other respects.

bradstewart: Yes coketunes seems to be incompatible with IE7. Apparently that will be fixed soon.

The tech support guy at OD2 (the online music store behind CokeTunes) has just sent me a list of instructions on how to fix this problem.  I can post them here (not too long) if anyone's interested.

This problem appears to have been caused by the DRM licence getting crunched somehow during the upgrade to IE7.

OD2 maintain that it's nothing to do with IE7.  All I know is that it worked perfectly UNTIL I upgraded from IE6.

So, go figure...  Anyway, it's all fixed now Laughing

Let me know if anyone wants the fixit instructions posted.

Does anyone else here use CokeTunes to buy music?

I'm having a problem with it since upgrading to IE7 and wondered if anyone else had struck the same issue. Tech. Support have been of no help at all so far.

I was using CokeTunes for a while. I think my credit has expired though. Yell Yes, their Tech Support is somewhat hopeless... I'm sure it's just one or two people that forward the messages to the 'real' Tech Support in another country (the UK?)
