If you haven't already, try "Windows 7" instead of Windows 7 when you search.

billgates:
CYaBro: Am I reading that correctly in that if you want Windows Media Center you need to buy Windows 8 Pro plus the WMC addon?
Or is it included with Windows 8?

You will need to purchase the Pro edition and on top of that you will need to purchase an media pack add on that will cover the licenses for Dolby pro and codec licenses.

One of the responders in Nathan's original link says:

Clearing up some common points of confusion:
– The media pack comes pre-installed in regular Win8.  It's an optional add-on for the business-oriented Pro because it's a very consumer-oriented feature.

Nathan, are you able to confirm if that is actually correct?

the blog post is correct

MCE is not in Windows 8

the comments posted are incorrect, as I previously mentioned

Its available for Windows 8 Pro with the Windows 8 Media Center Pack addon
or Windows 8 with the Windows 8 Pro Pack
Which gives you Windows 8 Pro with Media Center

Hi Nathan, did you get a chance to try VNC remote support of W8? Any updates as to the likelyhood of Metro being an option rather than mandatorily enabled?

Sorry I haven't played with VNC for a while, but am regularly using RDP from and to Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 machines every day perfectly fine

Metro is part of Windows 8 and there will be no classic mode etc

Thanks Nathan. Good to know for sure - even if as an MCE user, it was not actually the answer I wanted to hear.

Ugh, what a mess. Pity, MS were listening there for a while. Thank God there will be utilities which will enable classic view.

Ok, but I have to say, it would have to be a drastic change. I don't like not being able to close my OWN apps etc and I have to say after using it for 2 hours, I needed some exercise to burn off my excess frustration at not being able to work the way *I* want to :)

I acknowledge it's a great tablet or phone interface, though you'd be hard pressed to get me off Android now, but as a work device, I dislike it with a passion.

that only applies to the apps running in the metro shell.  desktop apps run indefinately.

as I've said before I've been using win8 for weeks and metro hardly ever shows up or gets in the way unless I go 'fetch' it. my laptop is normally plugged into dual 23" screens and I spend all my time in the 'classic' desktop working the same way I did when in w7
