I just tried this on my Windows Vista Business Vaio. Currently I am using Norton’s Security Suite (free 90 day trail, awaiting the Yahoo!Xtra Security Suite) and it picked this file up in about 2 seconds. I was until recently unimpressed with Norton’s Anti Virus products, but this latest one seems to do the job, and it's no where near as invasive or over protective like in previous versions.

I think I’ll be sticking with it.

I just copied and pasted the code into a text file, saved to my desktop (nortons deleted it rather fast). Why would using Firefox make a difference?

Oh!..my mistake , sorry ! I was confused with another test ! (just few posts back and the test is below)

From IE7, Nortons will not let me download any of the first 3 files. THe last one I can download, but Nortons picks it up quite fast.

Anti-virus: E-trust has always been the favourite as it is quite low on resources, and are pretty quick to pick up on new viri.

Firewall: I've used many firewalls both hardware and software.. but have taken a liking in recent years to having a dedicated box.. my current firewall machine: p3-1GHz, 512MB ECC Ram, 10GB SCSI w/ 10GB IDE Backup, Running Windows Server 2003 SP2 and ISA 2006 Enterprise with the backend configuration services running on 2 other separate servers for redundancy and further security.
ISA 2006 is a definite improvement over the 2004 version, offers both inbound and outbound security, is very secure, picks up modern day attacks automatically and has flexible routing, but hard to learn for a beginner. Definately not a choice for ya average homeuser! It's perfect for my uses tho, my only gripe i have with it, is that after hours of hair-pulling, I still can not get MSN Messenger Video to work through it due to the random nature of MSN port choices lol

I use AVG pretty much everywhere on commercial and non-commercial terms. However on my home Vista desktop I've been actively testing the theory that nothing can breach the UAC mechanism Vista has built in.

I'm not too concerned about email viruses as I haven't seen one hit my mail box for about 3 years now.

I tried installing Kaspersky the other day and the installer blue-screened my vista laptop and has left me with a partial install which I'm still removing pieces of today (manually).

I rely on my ADSL modem's firewall, which is stealthed to the outisde except for a random port I created high-up to forward to my unix box port 22 (ssh). I used to get hit every 10 minutes or so when I had port 22 visible (not that anyone got in but...), now I get no hack attempts, and use NAT to forward to port 22 on the inside. Sweet.

On this Vista machine I have NOD and the firewalling on by default, the XP machine has NOD also. Everything on the network is behind a CISCO 857 with the firewall locked down hard in both directions.

Just tested the text file and NOD wouldn't let me save.. and it also prevented me from downloading ALL the other test files.

I used to manage both the PIX 515 and ISA 2006 in my opinion the ISA box was eaiser to manage .. in a windows AD environment. I'm currently sitting behind a Cisco ASA at work which is managed by an outsourced company.

Remember that AV and firewall are only as good as the last update ... if you can surf the web then you are vunrable.

ZA allowed me to save the text file but then immediately quarantined it. Is the fact that it allowed me to save (I see NOD doesn't for example) enough to warrant changing to another antivirus programme?
