Did you get a CD with the monitor? If so run it, and see if you get the option to 'install' or 'load drivers' or something similar. Do all that, then restart the PC, then select the resolution as indicated by the other guys in this thread.

They are dead right, you need to run the right resolution for that monitor.

Whoops I put that reply in the wrong thread I think.

I didn't get a cd with my monitor.

I am happy with the type and photos now but the black screen that comes and goes is extremely annoying.

Do I just download the Display driver? I am so grateful for your help.

I would try the "Display Driver" only first. Download and install.

I just did a google search for Radeon 9600 drivers and there is a download for 9600 7.10 but my cd  says Version 8.01 so I would guess mine is newer than the download?

And your operating system is?

Also who manufactured the graphics card, e.g., Sapphire.

7.10 is the version of Catalyst. Very unlikely you have a newer version. Please advise your OS and manufacturer of graphics card.

Is ATI the right info you require. I am also on Windows XP

I am a little confused as to the word Catalyst. Does that apply to my graphics card

ATI made the chipset BUT didn't manufacture the card, Sapphire or Powercolor sell 9600s in NZ. Catalyst is the driver plus all the other fancy bits to change settings etc.

Catalyst 7.9 is driver version 8.411, Catalyst 7.10 is newer than this. Driver version 8.10 is several years old and doesn't appear on the list http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeonxprevious-xp.html
